Ran a 99 M3 coupe today

Till about 65 mph until I hit rev-limiter, we were neck and neck it began to pull slowly on me; and I had to turn left soon after. It was a manual 1999 M3 Special Edition (M-Contour rims, Silver) Very nice car!

My friend with a 93 auto Taurus SHO wants to run me at the 1/8th track. How fast are they? Will I beat him? Its Stock.

I have a 2k2 GLE.

1/8th = 9.355 @ 76.80 mph
1/4mi = 14.68 @ 94.01 mph

My recent track times.

Motor Trend says the 1992 Taurus SHO which had a 3.2L V6 rated at 220 hp ran a 15.4 @ 88.9 mph with the 4spd automatic. The five speed manual tranny, (if there was one available and I think there was) would most likely turn a 15.0.

Curiously, the 1996 SHO which had the 3.4L V8 rated at 235 hp only ran 15.7@88.6 with the same 4spd auto.

What rev limiter did you hit in a race to 65?? 1st would be like 40 and 2nd would be like 80? Now my 6 speed rev limits at 65 in 2nd but you have a GLE??

I hit something, I might have hit the MAF up. I was going and the car just limped out, I assumed it was the revlimiter, ,and when I looked down to see what was up it was about 65mph. Then I had to turn and shut the car off and restart it again. I had the ECU reset. It was a throttle error? throttle stopper had to be readjusted.

The SHO Taurus is a torque monster... it will not only give the Max a good run, but (I hate to say it) will probably beat the Max.

At work my friend with the SHO said he ran 10.20 in the 1/8th at 71mph. So I decided to run him during lunch and took him out. A manual would be a good race. Not bad stock for stock.

With a 10.20 1/8th mile I wonder what he does in the 1/4? 15.5?

In my personal experience against them, (at the track) they, (multiple years of SHO's) really haven't been able to keep up with the Maxima.

Sam, is that track time just with a Frankencar? That's a pretty impressive time!

I posted a thread awhile back about SHO's. I raced an early 90's version with the Yamaha motor on the highway and beat him by two car lengths. He tried again and I beat him again by about 2-3 car lengths. I have a 3.0 auto, so I would amagine the 3.5 should do well.
