Wow, that's a deal! But I'm gonna try the NGK copper plugs.

Yeah, I just got in on this deal too!

For those who are interested, here are the instructions for changing your spark plugs from the 2002 Maxima Electronic Service Manual:

---

Changing Spark Plugs

1. Remove intake manifold upper and lower, collectors.
2. Disconnect ignition coil harness connectors.
3. Loosen ignition coil fixing bolts and pull out coil from rocker cover.
4. Remove spark plugs with suitable spark plug wrench.

Spark plug (Platinum-tipped type):
Standard type - PLFR5A-11
Hot type - PLFR4A-11
Cold type - PLFR6A-11

Use standard type spark plug for normal condition.

The hot type spark plug is suitable when fouling may occur with the standard type spark plug such as:
- frequent engine starts
- low ambient temperatures

The cold type spark plug is suitable when spark knock may occur with the standard type spark plug such as:
- extended highway driving
- frequent high engine revolution

Gap (Nominal): 1.1 mm (0.043 in)
20 - 29 N·m (2.0 - 3.0 kg-m, 14 - 22 ft-lb)

Do not use a wire brush for cleaning.
If plug tip is covered with carbon, spark plug cleaner may be used.
Cleaner air pressure:
Less than 588 kPa (6 kg/cm2, 85 psi)
Cleaning time:
Less than 20 seconds

Checking and adjusting plug gap is not required.

---

By the way, what kind of tool do I use to adjust the gap? Also, why are the Nissan-recommended NGK spark plugs of a different model number than the usually-recommended PFR5G-11 plugs?

Peace.

I never heard of that. How often do we have to gap them?

Nissan's 2002 Maxima Electronic Service Manual says:

"Checking and adjusting plug gap is not required."

That's because the manual refers to the platinum tipped plugs, not the copper (less expensive).

I just purchased a set . . .

I was going to install NGK Iridium plugs, but $37.00 for a set of NGK Platinum plugs is too good a price to pass up. Thanks for the tip, teddibear703.
