string hanging from bottom of car
ive noticed that my 2000 maxima has some type of blue rope hanging from the bottom and also notice it on almost all the maximas i see on the road anyone know what this is.

Found this on my 2K last year. Got under there and took it off. Was a braided ground wire from the catalytic heat shield to the undercarriage (it got fried by the exhaust heat). Took the remains to the dealer to find out if it was important, but their only response was "you should get that fixed". Couldn't tell me what it was for and even though I was there didn't offer to set up a service appointment, so I left.
OK, since I have not been under there enough to know the exhaust system that well, can anyone tell me if the system is isolated/insulated enough from the rest of the car to cause a static electricity issue? If so, yes, the ground strap is important.
