2001 grand prix gt vs. 2001 max
GT vs MAX
5-speed max would spank it, auto max would (maybe)nose it out pretty good, they have 200hp 225lbs torque, the 3.8 has some torque so off the line with the GT will be good. Great race auto to auto but if you own a 5-speed, you should get him good.
If any race was over 80mph the MAX either auto or 5-speed would be spitting gravel all over the poor GT's face.

I'm not so sure about that 80+mph thing. The GTPs have a lot more torque and do better at a roll than from a stop. Will beat even a 5spd from a roll. For those of us with 5spds, the advantage is from the stop. As for GTs, well . . . 5spds all the way.

Kev, I wonder though did they do a few tweaks while racing against Grand Prix like manually shifting the auto to 6500 and torque breaking?

Most of us can go faster in the 1/4 mile than they did.
Other differences
Aside from speed, I've been told there are more features on the grand prix. I did not test drive one before I bought my max. I know the price is a bit less than the max, so if speed is basically equal and price is less, what specific performance or other things give the max an advantage? Better engineering? Better suspension? Better brakes? Better what?? I see a lot more grand prix on the road, and I'm woundering why I shouldn't have bought a GTP (maybe if I had test drove one I'd already know the answer..)

We are talking about GTs not GTPs, My post would not be the same IF we were talking about GTPs.
