HELP whats wrong with my Max?!

hey guys/gals
let me describe my problem/situation. Yesterday while driving i noticed a whine coming from the car. it happens when traveling from about 40 mph and higher with your foot just barely on the gas to maintain speed. it also does it with the cruise control on. it sounds like it could be the tranny but how could it have problems at only 5050 miles? anyone who knows what this might be please reply or PM me
Thanks in advance

I think the whine is what a couple other 6 spds around this area have from going 1-2-1 shifting. Sounds like a bearing problem in the tranny and it will get louder as time goes on.

Does this happen all the time now or certain road surfaces?

Also, sounds crazy, but check to see if you have something in ne or more of your tires. A small screw or nail can often make surprising noises at speed.

At first i thought it was the tires cause my sister turned my stereo off, something that rarely happens. so i thought it was the blowtenzas on the road just whining but if i let off the gas the sound seems to peek then to stop completely until i get back on the gas and it was happening on all the roads i drove on last night it isnt nosticeable at low speeds but just while cruising above 40 then around 60 you cannot hear it anymore because of the road noise but if you listen really close it is there

read my above post b/c it sounds like that exact problem....if it is it will get louder over time and become a lot more noticable. Does it sound kind of like a roots blower whine. If so its your tranny.

i think i have/had the same problem. i havent noticed it recently but that may be because i very rarely drive without music. so if the radio is on i dont hear it.

so you said its a whining noise when you have the throttle sligtly depressed just to maintain speed right? and it goes away when you either let off the gas or give it more gas?

if so it sounds like the exact same thing i had. i never did figure out what was causing it but im kind of glad to know im not the only one. i just had a new transmission put in about 500 miles ago under warranty so i may not have the problem anymore. ill post again if i find that i still have it.

Warranty replacement or was it deemed to be unusual wear and tear by the dealer? i havent done anything to screw up my tranny and it is already going bad at 5000 miles the dealer better give me a new one

YES take it to them and make sure you ride with the tech so they are aware of what your talking about. If not its almost an automatic could not duplicate and now an extra 10 miles are put on your car for the techs joyride.

the transmission was replaced because of a grinding 3rd gear and a problem with reverse. i didnt mean to imply that it had something to do with this whining noise. i never brought that up to the dealer. i just mentioned that because if my whining noise has gone away it could be because of the new tranny but im not sure.
