Nissan Service sucks, A/C problem please help

Hey guys,

Well I just had my first problem with Nissan Service and I need to vent. I brought my car in to have my A/C fixed, because I bought the car n January and the A/C has not worked. Well, first of all the service writer told me it would take atmost a couple of hours to diagnose and fix, so I could wait. Well after three hours of waiting I finally found my salesman and had him talk to the service writer (it's pretty bad when a car salesman is on youre side and badmouths his service department) Well after five hours of waiting, all they did was charge the A/C and test for no leaks. Now's the good part, they didn't fix it, still blowing warm air but holding the charge. They also said I would have to bring it in again and they might NOT pay for anymore work that has to be done on it. So great, I buy a car for around $16,0000 and I have no A/C. Atleast I have the salesman on my side (if you can believe it) and hopefully they will fix it next time (free of charge, cause I can't afford to pay for it). Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem with it could be (compressor, condensor etc..) and the cost. Sorry for the length but I needed to get it out. Thanks for the replies!

Wondered if they put any freon in there. If not, then I would have to guess it's the compressor. If no leaks...there's only a few parts in a freakin air conditioner!!!

I know it. I waited five hours for them to fill it with R-134A and check for leaks, which there aren't any. How much is a compressor? I plan on making them pay for it

I am guessing $1200? When my dad had a lexus ls400 and when his compressor broke, the lexus dealer charged him 2800 and it broke in exactly one month and 2 weeks (1 year warranty).

That sucks. Are you still in warranty?

Go to another dealer and let them know the other one sucked and you'd be glad to give a good survey report to NNA if they hooked you up.

Works wonders for me.

Are you still under warranty? If so, they don't have a leg to stand on for not covering any additional work - something is broken, and they didn't fix it.

Might not be worth the hassle of messing with them though. Unless there are no other dealers around, try another one that may have a decent service department.

Good luck!

Thanks, I'll try that if all else fails. Right now i'm still going to push them to pay. I usually get what I want, but I really don't want to start yelling at them.

Yelling probably won't help, but as saxdogg suggested, hold out the bone of the NNA satisfaction survey. The threat of a bad one or the enticement of an excellent one usually works wonders. The dealership I use has one of those NNA "Customer First" award designations and they make it very clear that they'll do just about anything to keep it.

Best of luck!

Well are you guys ready for this one. After work today I decided to have a look under the hood with my brother (he is a Subaru tech in training) He noticed that my A/C compressor line was UNPLUGGED and dangling inches away from the fan. He plugged it back in and Wala...cold A/C. Well, I am very happy but also very dissapointed at Nissan. I think I am going to have alittle chat with them in the morning. Thanks for the help all!
