My max stinks

Whenever it rains or if I turn off A/C for a little bit, the air that comes out from the vents smells bad. I have 2k SE w/ 62k. Obviously, the condensation is wetting something. Will installing/replacing the in-cabin air filter solve my problem? Is there anything I can clean/replace that will stop this?

Re: My max stinks

That happens whenever you leave your AC on recirculation mode. A bit of mold builds up and when you run the air, it smells bad for a good few minutes. I've noticed this in the Maxima and the Quest minivan.

The easiest way to keep that smell away as much as you can is to not leave your AC on recirculation mode. Just run the air straight through all the time. Only use the recirculation mode to quickly cool the cabin down or to keep smelly outside air out temporarily and then switch back to the normal mode.

The in-cabin microfilter is really there to keep out allergens and to help freshen up the air that shoots around through your air ducts. It won't really keep the light mold smell from happening if you keep your AC on recirc.

Peace.
