That reminds me...The salesman also pointed out the "FAIR" price, and I was like "what do you mean fair? This car is in AT LEAST "GOOD" shape, if not "EXCELLENT"", and he tells me that they use "FAIR" for ALL cars, no matter what condition they're in. I just laughed at him, and proceeded to buy the car w/out trading-in.

Then his used car guy offers me $15,500. Trying to make me feel good. When I should get somewhere between $16,000. and $17,000. I owe $24,000. (NMAC Lease Payoff). And you wonder why car salesmen are STILL not trusted and nothing is changed since the BEGINNING OF TIME with car dealers. What an insult. I guess they think the PUBLIC is stupid & un-educated. Hey, everyone deserves to make a buck but GIVE ME A FAIR DEAL!
Why do you think it is the salesman's fault? Remember that you have a two year old car now. The average depreciation is 40% for 2 years, so take that subtract it from the original price you paid and that is what the car is worth now.

Round numbers
selling price 25,000
-30%depreciation 17,500 (after 1 year)
-40%depreciation 15,000 (after 2 years)
-50%depreciation 12,500 (after 3 years)

Not to mention that right now you can probably buy an 03 GLE for close to 24K with a great interest rate, so to make your 02' look appealing they would have to sell it for probably close to 18k. Interest rates on used cars are still relatively high compared to new.

you wonder why car salesmen are STILL not trusted
I love people like you that think it is the salesperson putting the number on your car. That salesperson is most likely answering to a manager who is puting a value on the car, and unfortunately the salesman is the bearer of bad news. Do you think he wants to make you mad? Did you know that he doesn't make a dime off of your trade in value, and only makes a commission on the selling price of the new car!

All I know is that miracles do happen

My payment is within $20 of my 2k max payment.

low interest rate loan + 4,900 left on 2k max traded in at almost 16K made that happen.

heh, I wonder why my old max hasnt sold off the used lot yet? they are only asking 16.5 :/ suckers...

(yeah, I know they padded the trade to work off the top of the G.. whatever, I'm thrilled)

Well at least you got $2,000 more than me!
If TimW can get $16,000 for his 2k Max, I might be able to get 17 or even 18 g's for my 2k2. I'm going to print out some pricing reports and carry them around with me just in case

In the end, it doesn't matter what any of the guides say your car is worth in a trade in. Nothing illustrates that better than when I was talking to a friend of mine who is a dealer. He had a customer who stubbornly maintained that his truck was worth $10K on KBB. The dealer would only offer him $8K for it. And what was the dealer's response to the customer? "Then let KBB write you the check for $10K. It's only worth $8K"

BTW, he uses auction values to determine trade ins.

Before you go to a used dealership to purchase a car, it is very important that you do your research. You have to know what car you need and the correct price to cover it. A website I came across helped me figure these things out. Then, it showed me the best used dealership in Spokane to help me. Have you been looking to sell or buy a used or pre-owned auto? If this could be you, find out more on our websites at ”BJ auto service"

That was wrong. I was thinking: "Why in the hell is everyone saying that's a lowball!?" Then I saw the date. Damn can't spammers just start threads instead of resurrecting old ones? Moreover sheeit like this tends to **** off the people you are trying to sell to. What kind of advertising is that?

I was thinking the same thing. The only reason I clicked on it was to comment. LOL.
