big wreck

The girl that I've been seeing lately she had a little accident with her 5th gen when her shoe (those dadgummed women's shoes) came off suddenly while she was stopped. Of course she didn't put the thing in park and bam, she went right into a wall at a weird angle. It smashed in the passenger side front fender, tore the grill and front bumper valance, bent the front crossmember, tweaked the radiator and knocked in the shock tower. Her car will start but with the pulleys on the passenger side are grinding into the shock tower. I told her not to run the car at all. Is there anyway I could possibly get that car running enough so we could take it to a body shop without paying for a tow truck?

In a word, nope.

I would just drop the $100.00 or so on the wrecker rather than risk doing much more damage than that in trying to drive it around. Especially if the pulleys are not the only thing wrong.

Re: big wreck

Get it towed! You're risking more damage if you try to drive the car the way it is now.

Ouch Sorry to hear that. Hopefully everyone is okay.

Speaking of having cars towed, mine was considered "driveable" and took it as such. The other car was definitely towed during my accident but we just drove the Max home - in fact i drove it to work this A.M. Do i also risk more damage that way?

You MAY have done some, but since yours was rear damage, there is considerably less back there to mess up...assuming it wasn't already messed from the wreck.

It does make some kind of loud whirring sound like there's some contact between the wheel and something else (whir.. whir.. whir.. if i'm going slow and speeds up as i also speed up).

The guy at Mossy said, "It's just probably your muffler" but it definitely doesn't sound like any muffler i've heard of before - damaged or not.

Might be something brushing against the inner tire tread...kind of like the old 'baseball card in the spokes' thing.

The only thing not okay is her pride. I think we will get it towed. Since I'm not originally from T-town, who would be someone good to ask for a recommendation on a good body shop? I'm just glad I picked this weekend to go fishing back home rather than go out with her on a Saturday night.
