Service Engine Sign

Hello everyone im a first at maxima.org. I wanted to ask everyone if anyone know whats happening to my one week old 03 Maxima. I am getting the service engine sign on so i called up the dealer (have a appointment on wednesday) they told me that it could be from leaving the car on while filling gas or not closing the cap properly after filling gas..anyone have a similar problem? and should this be something to be scared about?
Thanks Everyone

Re: Service Engine Sign

The first question Nissan service departments always ask when you bring up the topic of an SES light is whether or not you closed the gas cap properly. After you pump your gas, make sure you 'click' that cap a few times (I do it about 5 to 7 times to be safe).

A common problem that would activate the SES light is an O2 sensor issue where it'll either need to be replaced and your ECU reprogrammed, or the ECU will simply be reprogrammed with no other action needed.

If your car is still driving okay, I wouldn't worry about it, but I would recommend bringing the car in to have them check it out so they can clear everything anyway.

Seems like the gas cap explanation is most common. Just keep after the dealer. They are usually pretty good to you when the car is brand new.

Good Luck!
