Difference between VQ35 and VQ35DE

I was just reading some older threads about oil filters. In one of them, bill99gxe mentioned that VQ35 owners should use the M1-110 filter from Mobil 1 but VQ35DE owners should use the M1-105. What is the difference between the VQ35 and the VQ35DE and how can I tell which one I have? Thanks.

I think it's the same thing, just different wording. The VQ35 is the "short" name, whereas the VQ35DE is the "full" code name.

If that's the case then why would bill99gxe seperate the two? Like I said, he mentioned that VQ35 should use M1-110 and VQ35DE should use M1-105.

Here's the thread...

And for convenience here's the part of the thread that I'm talking about...

Use the M1-110.

The bypass valve is rated the same at 14psi, and basically the only real differences are the actual size and smaller filtration area for the M1-108 to fit in the SR20DE engine compartments.

M1-110s work on all VQ30 and VQ35 models.

Note:

For VQ35DE owners, use the M1-105 due to its better top end bypass valve design. It's better constructed than the bypass valve of the M1-108 and M1-110 filters.

The VQ35's can use either, but he's recommending the later.

I see the problem...it is the way you are reading this and the abbreviated form of the VQ desingations in the thread...kind of one person interchangably using Max, and Nissan Maxima to mean the exact same thing.

The way I read it is that the M1-110 will fit both, the M1-105 happens to be better for the 3.5 though. Not really a DE vs non-DE distinction...more of a 'best choice would be' comment.

As least that is the way I read this.
