Intakes, Intakes, and still more intakes.
<B> Does anyone have a comprehensive list of the intakes available for the 00-01 Maximas and their prices? I'm not looking for anything fancy...if it's a CAI, i might pay close to $200, otherwise...if it's just a filter that sits in the engine bay, i don't want to spend more than $150. Any sugestions? The stillen one is something like $220 and it's not a CAI, right?
I'm wanting to hear the engine now that i'm getting bored of my exhaust note (straight through muffler with stillen y-pipe). </B>

I've assembled a short list: http://www.fourthrock.com/maxima/2k_parts_list.html
Stillen intake will put you at over $150.. I think its $170ish. The pop charger should run you about $125 same as stillen but with a generic filter. Place Racing CAI is I dunno how much.. I think in the neighboor hood of $200. The most interesting one currently looks to be the "air silencer CAI" search on that, several interesting threads. Appears you just modify the stock intake and see very nice performance increase in the neighboorhood of $50.
<B> Ok, sorry for the idiot question as i was never involved in intake terminology...
POP Charger = ? I'd like to have an air filter drop behind the fog lamp area...Mdeal's list kicks *** and there's somethign called a JWT POP Charger...?!?!? Stillen Hi-flow intake is just a filter that sits behind the battery? </B>

basically...
you can get a stillen Hi-Flow for around $177 after tax.
and it will make your engine bay look like this....

i know i should have photoshopped the pic to make it smaller...but i'm at school...so bare with it for about a day...i'll have'em fixed...

SCCA Solo2,
If you want to get air from a headlight housing, as in remove a headlight and put a filter in its place (e.g. like the BMW's you see racing on Speed Vision TV), look on my list and notice the tubing which you can purchase individually. You can fabricate your own since you'll have to have longer pieces to reach the headlamp housing area.
You could put any filter on the end, preferable a K&N, to keep the dirt out.

Looks like we're back to the herd instinct again . . .
Is punkdork the only one here who's willing to think for himself?
IMHO, it's ridiculous to spend money on an aftermarket intake setup without first trying the Air Silencer CAI. If I hadn't purchased a Stillen Intake before I found out about the Air Silencer CAI, I would have tried it for myself.
For more info, check out the link in my sig.

<B> Ok, maybe i'm tired and not getting it through my thick head.
The Stock box is typically the best over aftermarket in terms of providing the best over torque and Hp...whereas the aftermarket air filter will just up the hp/torque figure in one sweet spot. Grand.
I'm looking to get the sweet sound of the overhead cam v6 intake...yet, still add some purpose and function to the intake.
The PR CAI looks the most promising...but at the greatest expense (and cutting a hole?!?!?). Are there any other intakes that should the filter outside of the engine bay?
And i tried reading that business about the white box and silence...blah blah. It's spanish to me since i haven't touched my intake. I'm sorry if i'm asking a lot but, if you use a regular air filter that has the filter placed behind the battery and you keep some of the intake ducting in place (ie, funnel above the radiator that is fed from the centre grill)...it's the best for performance? Or should i just get the PR CAI?!

What I've gathered from the threads is that you put in an additional tube down to the lower grill or whatever. So you get a CAI and use the stock intake and should have virtually no water worries. I'm gonna reread the thread and look into it since I have to put the stock box back on to take the car in for knocking after the tranny is fixed.
