trunk tension rod just broke, any suggestions how to fix?

today as i was opening the trunk, i heard the sound of metal creaking, and as it got about halfway open, i found out one of the 2 tension rod things, had popped off. i looked at the rod, and how the other one was set in, and the way its set in, is that it hangs on the trunk and the deck, but its twisted into place, and i found that it too difficult to twist back into place with any tools or by hand. anyone else have this problem? if ya did, what did u guys do to fix it? i was actually thinking of getting some hood struts or something along the lines of that, and rigging it to the trunk as to hold it open.

also, a note, the other tension rod is still in place, but its not enough to hold it up, and with one of the rods missing, the trunk is quite heavy, im wondering how heavy it would be with no support at all.
