Warped Rotor Clarification
Warped Rotor Clarification
Just a few questions regarding the warped rotor issue with the 5th gens.
1. If your rotors are warped, do they have to replaced or can they be turned? I'm getting mild vibration and movement when braking.
2. Are the newer OEM rotors any better than the early ones? The reason I ask is when Nissan had all the problems with early MAF sensors, they released a newer, more reliable one. I'm wondering if this is the case with the rotors.
Thanks.

I drove off the lot, brand new car with bad rotors, the car sat for a long time and the rotors rusted up making them feel warped. The surface was wavy from the uneven rust. That does happen.
They wouldn't replace them, they would only cut them. I even argued the point with nissan HQ.
I've heard the same from others.
I doubt they changed to a better steel.
Best bet is to go with good aftermarket rotors if yours keep warping easy.
I've been through this with my other car as well. After 8 years of trying everything, here's what I learned about aftermarket:
Brembo blanks absolutely blow, even if you don't slot or x-drill. I don't care what anyone says, I've heard this from other people as well. They must be using crappy steel.
OEM, from just about all manufacturers, sucks
Powerslots are the best I've used so far, but they are a tiny bit bling-bling for my taste and expensive. Those have held up the best for me so far (on my Talon). I've also read that slots are good for preventing glazed pads, I have to agree with that. My brakes have never squealed with the PS rotors, but that could be other factors.
If I were you, I'd cut what you have if it's under warranty. Milk them, then go aftermarket a few years down the road when they warp again if not warranty.

Same problem here.. with 1700 miles. The TSB says to turn them with an on wheel lathe. There's was busted, so they turned them of wheel... so far so good. The rotors are covered for 3yr-36,000 miles. Try to get new ones. Good luck.
throw them out......
rotors were replaced under warranty. By the time warranty expired, the rotors were acting up again..so I just got rid of them and got into a set of 4 Raybestos rotors.Highly recommended. car brakes like never before..and next to NO dust from the replacement Raybestos pads I put on at the same time.
I called DAVEb the part guy and he said that it might not be the rotors but the brakes. nissan revised the rotors many times and still happening so they revised the brakes 3 times and I think the problem is gone.
I do a lot of high speed stops and my brakes were holding up pretty good untill i overheat them. After cooling they work great again.
Now i have Brembo slotted, nissan NEWEST pads, SS lines. the brakes feel much stronger but I only got them today so time will tell how good they are.
