The 5th gen maxima has the same engine as the 4th gen.are the trans the same? is there just a problem with the auto tranny? sorry about the B----ing post.didn't mean to hit a soft spot,If I had this problem i,ll be pissed also.I love my maxima put alot of after market parts on it ( lots of money )and just hope i don't have any problems.PEACE AND GOOD LUCK DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE.

Well its the same engine with tweaks for more hp. What I've been able to gather is that they made the tranny softer so you don't get slammed around by the power, however they made it too soft in the beginning so the engine tears the tranny up.

To lengthen the life of the tranny, you should:

1) Fix TCM and solenoid problem
2) Get a tranny cooler ($50 at Pepboys)
3) Get the valvebody recalibration ($400 from Don in Texas)

Do a search on the valvebody to find out more.

The pathetic thing is steps 2 and 3 can be used as excuses by Nissan to void your warranty.

Very true... but guess what? They changed my TCM after the vb recal was done. Hehehehe...

I don't see how adding a tranny cooler can void the warranty. They would have to prove that the cooler caused damage to the transmission. Modify the valve body and you're probably on your own, LOL.

Well if Red Line transmission fluid can void a warranty then a cooler certainly can.. I can see it now... "The fluid pump can't handle the extra volume to properly circulate the fluid..." or something like that.

well me going to nissan adn switching out my vb would also throw my money away on the vb mod... i htink i'll wait til the sucker stops.. then i'll call up level ten.. HEHEHEHEE.. MUHAAHAHAHAHAH. (once again the fool talks and talks and talk but doesn't lift one toe to begin the walk)
