2K1 Active Head Rests.....

I just purchased my 2001 SE a few weeks ago, I was just wondering what the "Active Head Rests" do? Why are they known as 'active'? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated

When you get rear-ended they actually come forward a little bit. Volvos do it too. Nissan looking out for the best...
