could a intake take in to much air
Just last week I made a custom adapter piece and put a cone filter on the end and the put it on the car. After driving for about 5 minutes it would go over 2000 rpm. So I read before that it was the mafs so I went and had it look at and it came back it was the sensor. I stuck a used k & n filter on there. COuld it have had to much oil and that did it or what? So I just got a new filter with no oil what so ever on it so it appears and stuck that on. Even though my new mafs hasnt came. It seems at idel it is reall sucking in a lot of air you can hear it. Should I keep the itake or should I take it off when I stick my new one on. I am scared it is going to mess it up again. The one waas ordered for daveb was suppose to be here today but something got messed up so now monday.
thanks sorry for making this so long.

Sounds like the MAF. It is not because of to much air. Possibly was the oil on the k&n. Did you drop or bang on the MAF during the install?

No I made an adapter to put a k & n cone filter on and I took the whole mafs out. Bolted it one and put it back on and pluged teh sensor back in. Now what about the sensor going to the air going out.(hooks into the bottem of stock air box) 2000 se is what I have.

It's very hard to understand what you wrote. You may want to rewrite it if you're looking for more responses. If you hear sucking noises at idle you may want to check the clamps to makes sure they are tight on your intake setup.

Sorry about it being hard to read. What I did was I took the stock air box out along with the mafs. I custom made a piece to to put a k&n airfilter on to the mafs. SO I bolted it all together and reinstalled it. BUt after about five minutes the check engine light came on and the car would not rev over 2000 rpm. So I got it checked out and they told me the mafs was bad. Could it have been from oil on the filter or could it have been sucking in to much air is what I wanted to know? Could a leak between the filter and mafs cause this? So I got a new sensor just hasnt arrived yet from Daveb.
thanks

No. With any intake even the one you have made you can't get to much air going through it. Either you over oiled the K&N filter or you had a leak past it. A leak at the filter and the MAF will cause no immediate problems but a leak on the other side will because un-metered air is getting in.
Try cleaning the sensor with carb cleaner or rubbing alcohol. Then make sure all of you connections are tight.
