I tried tinting my corners, but I can never be abe to coat them evenly. You have any specific advice for painting them?

no problems with even coats here...the Nite Shades went on very thin and very even. just keep it to light coats...one at a time to prevent running and then allow plenty of dry time. it should turn out fine if you try it again using Nite Shades.

Excellent write up!! I've wanted dark tails for a while.

In the how-to it mentioned buying OEM dark tails. I didn't think the dark ones were available. Anyone know if they are?

good question about the dark tails...i was referring to the ones with black trim - that came on 2001 SEs for example.

i never actually priced those so i'm not really sure if you can buy them new or not.

i would assume that you could...but don't know for sure. either way, you could surely find some on ebay or trade with someone on the board.

this Nite Shades gives a nearly identical look however, and is surely cheaper! plus, i didn't want black anyways. i wanted a more grey to match the car's paint job - that was the cool thing about the Nite Shades, you could make your own darkness based on how many coats you apply.

I was looking for the 2001 SE tails, but I've not seen them new for sale anywhere. I don't think anyone makes them. I like the clear bottom part of the 2001's, too. I can't stand the orange in my 2K2's. I couldn't tell from your pics how dark you made yours.

Not sure what I'll do. Trading is difficult if the peeps are not close together. Too much down time...

the Nite Shades is pretty tuff stuff...after all this is what it is made for. it shouldn't go anywhere! especially after you put clear coat on top of it to seal it further (if you get clear top coat from an auto parts store, it is the same stuff used to seal auto paint - so you know it will do its job). i read articles and other forum post on the web of people not having any fading or problems after a years of it being on.
