Power windows & locks problem '02 Maxima SE

Greetings!

I've been roaming the forum for some time now, trying to find other posts on an annoying problem that's just popped up with my 2002 Maxima SE. If any of you can offer assistance or experiences with it, I'd appreciate it.

The vehicle was purchased from Hertz last March, with 25,000 miles. The only thing we did afterward was replace the archaic distilled-water-filled battery with a Sears DieHard. Since then, the
power windows have on three occasions in the last two months lowered while the car was parked, ignition off, and keyfobs well away from the vehicle. Also in the same time frame is a problem that may or may not be related: while driving, the power locks will lock and unlock in quick sucession, without the control being touched by the driver. As this happens, there is an audible clicking noise in the dash, somewhere in the neighborhood of the tachometer.

Reading other posts about similar problems, I wonder if having the battery disconnected while being replaced might have caused a glitch in the computer. Has anyone else had this problem, and how was it
corrected? If it is a computer problem, how easy is it to reprogram? I've also looked for any TSBs and found nothing related to either of these at the NHTSA's ODI site.

Many thanks for your help!

Its sounds like you may have an occasional stuck relay. The battery being con/disconnected shouldn't have anything to do with this problem. Its possible that something could have gotten wet, and is now occasionally shorting out. It could still be under the original Max's warranty, of 3 yr, 36k bumer to bumper, maybe give a dealer a try?

The solution!

Well, I just got the car back from the dealer, and the problem turned out to be with one of the keyfob remotes. Turned out that the techs have a diagnostic computer which can read the signals emitted by the remote, and with it was able to determine that one of them was sticking. They replaced it, reprogramed it and the other, and now everything works perfectly.

Another nice thing is the attention the car got from the service techs- even though I didn't purchase the car from this particular dealership, they still treated it like one of their own. So anyone who lives in the Central Valley of CA: Central Valley Nissan in Modesto, ask for Dave.
