In an effort to conserve gas I engaged the cruise control on the highway. I quickly grew inpatient and accelerated to a max of 91 mph. It wouldn't go past that speed I find that an odd speed for the cruise control to top out. I would think Nissan would have programed a lower cruise maximum. If you have that option, what is your cruise control's top speed allowed?

Yep, that is how it is on most Nissan's around 91-92 mph...

The other thing which is funny, if you own a 5spd, you can put it in neutral at 70, and set the cruise on, it will work, but have your finger ready to hit cancel, because the rpms will start to climb all the way to redline. HEHEHE

It's very close to 150 K/hr, which is a nice round number.

Umm, may I ask, If you wanted to conserve gas what were you doing 90 for?

To boot, if you are doing 90, I would greatly appreciate it if you wouldn't play footsys with your passenger.

I guess (?)

I guess the top speed for cruise is set there because despite the car's odometer stating a top speed of 160, "they say" it's not good to hold the car at high RPM's for long periods of time. So I guess they figure 90 MPH is at the highest RPM's that's safe to have the engine running at for hours. Does that make any sense?

Every car I have ever driven have top speeds for cruise control set at about 90, Mitsus, Nissans, Fords, Chryslers, Lexi, Toyotas... If you are cruisin' higher than that, ya really should be a more active part of the driving experience.

Well asside from a safety issue I'm pretty sure its a legal issue, most likely a government requirement.

Thanks for the answers

I was using the cruise control at 90 mph because I was driving slower than usual. No footsy time at that time. If you have been on highway 280 in CA, you know you it has wide areas to accelerate for brief runs. Anyway, it did not feel safe using the cruise control at that speed in traffic so I took it off quickly. I was just surprised at the number it topped out at. The answer one of you gave about 90 being perhaps at the high end of the recommended RPM's for extended driving sounds good and makes sense. I had a smaller older car that the cruise control topped off at 70 mph, which is what I had expected in the Maxima.
