Is this the cat-back system?
I know, silly question. But seriously, would the highlighted parts in the photo below constitute the cat-back system?
Apparently this whole system will need to be replaced on my Max. There's also a chance that there's damage all the way to the Y and manifold on the car - they'll know for sure once they put it on the lift.
Anyway, if this is a cat-back system. What's something good (e.g. not loud or droning) and relatively cheap?

there are only 2 choices for cat-back exhausts. Greddy and Cattman. everything else is either full custom or partial custom. I was trying to get a custom exhaust with a dual tip muffler, 2.75 inch piping, and stainless. It was goin to run me about a thou. Im going with the Greddy now. Ran me $529 through stillen, which is more than $100 under Greddy's list price. They were the lowest price I could find.

Yes, that is the "cat-back" parts.
I just replaced mine with the OBX system. Picked it up for $200 on ebay brand new and it fit perfectly. The quality of the system was very suprising. I have seen and used many brands, this one ranked with the best of them. I recommend it to anyone.

How does it sound? Any increase in performance?

I covered all this in the thread above. But in short, yes totally worth the money, def. power, and built very well. 2.5" system, 4.5" outlet, looks like greddy. sounds great, like BMW M-3 Exhausts. It is a polished stainless system all the way. There should be no rust on the outside of this except the weld points.
I got it on Ebay, there is a link in the thread. They actually had another one on ebay already so keep your eyes out for them. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the responses guys
How loud is the OBX btw? I'm trying to find something that's as, or slightly, loud as the OEM set-up.
Also, is the muffler/tip portion of it too obvious when looking at the car from the back or the side? Somehow looking at the E-Bay photo reminds me of Civics and Accords with mufflers sticking out of their back-end.

Thanks again for the help guys!
PCGuRu2K, interesting that you say that - from reading the 4th gen threads it seems OBX is the quietest amongst Cat-back's.
Hmm... this is getting confusing. What to get, what to get?

I think the obx is quite because it has 2 resonators on it or just one big one.. Don't know if that affects free-flow or not.. But the magazine was comparing it to namebrand exhaust.. Obx is generic

I see. Hmm, i'm torn between the two now:
a) Replace entire cat-back with aftermarket
b) Replace only the muffler and have the shop get OEM for the rest.
I'd like to save cash on this repair and it seems i'd get more if i went for the Cat-Back, but it may just be too loud for my taste.

The OBX system has only one (1) resonator, and it is not big. It is smaller than the stock rsonator. The unit is not the quietest, it is loud enough that is got me a ticket the first day it was on....
As for it not being a name brand??? OBX is a name brand, and they have been around for years. Nope, they are not greddy, but I personally don't want to buy a Greddy that will provide NO MORE gains than the OBX and will rust/break/fall-off just as fast as the OBX. I actually had a Greddy that rusted off from the inside out. That is because the inside of the greddy is crap. They all are.
I will not buy crap for my car, that is why I shop around, and I recommend picking up an OBX unless you want to pay more for the same technology....
