2003 Maxima Demo Car

Hi, there

I am new for this board. Recently, I am considering to buy a 2003 maxiam, but it is hard to find any new maximas in my area. I looked around, only one dealer has a loaded 2003 maxima SE demo car which has 52xx miles on it. The dealer is willing to sell it to me at 20K which is more than 7k off MSRP (27xxx). Is it worthy to buy?

Options?

It sounds like a decent deal, although they will try to tell you that it was "just driven around by the boss", which translates to "redlined in every gear by all of the pimply faced salespeople".

Not an 03 or 02 previous maybe an 01 previous rental, the lowest I have seen them is 17,*** with over 20,000 miles.

my 2k2 was a demo w/ 3200 miles.. they gave me the 'only driven by the boss' line too.. but I got a decent deal on it last summer before 2k3's were dirt cheap

i'm at 22k miles now, no probs so far

I think anyone who drives a max drives it faster than say, you're average car. Its hard to do the speedlimit when the car just wants to keep going, and 80 is put right in the middle of the spedo. Try and get some prior maintence records, to at least make sure the oil was changed at a timely interval.

you say it's loaded... lthr, meridian, etc? if so, then it sounds like a very good price. at 5200 miles, this max should be perfectly fine. have them throw in a 100M waranty.

hertz is selling 02's for 16-17.5
03's for 17.5-19 & these are set by corporate, no negotiation
all have about 25M, and very few have a moonroof

if this demo doesnt have; lthr, mnrf, titanium, etc, then this deal is below avg.

::: just looked at your post, again... 27K was msrp. that means its probably has a moonroof only,NO lthr, titanium, meridian. BAD DEAL.

Yep that is what I have been seeing them run for too, but we do need to realize that 25k miles is alot of miles for an 03 with probably 40% of those miles being driven hard!

i'd guess about 10-15% hard driven. remember, the max was not cheap to rent. most people that rent the max were families, and execs.

i've rented many cars in the past few years. yes, i've abused a couple.. but for the most part, just driving like a regular person.

same with my friends. but these are only my experiences.

honestly, i'd buy a rental over an org's member max, in general.

Yeah, but it has been driven by soooo many different people, so a better guess is that ALL rentals have been driven fairly hard a minimum of 10-15% of the time.

i just meant 10-15% contrary, to the 40% of the TIME they are driven 'hard'. NOT 10-15% of the total cars: I was referring to the mileage. My fault for making it somewhat ambiguous.

The only thing I would have to say is watch out. Not really though. Normally that kind of car means its the test car to get people hooked and buy one, that means higher RPMS, driven hard, etc.

with so few miles and it being a dealer ship, it wouldnt have a chance to get the proper break in (well atleast to me). If you did get it I would change the oil ASAP and just check and make sure that is semi normal. Newer engines need to get their wear patterns down which will produce a higher metal content, but still.....

I still believe you wont have any problems, believe it or not, there is a reason why we are on the 10 best engines for 10 years running.

Good luck with what ever you choose!

My '02 was the owner's demo (I had to remove all of his stuff out of my car when I got it). It had 4566 on the clock when I got it.

So far, it's still running like a top.

i bought my max as a demp... but it only had 400 miles on it... it was just started as a demo i guess. runs awsome and they took about 5k off the price. worked for me, but it depends on who really drives the car. ya know poeple dont "go easy on it" when they're test driving cars
