Goodbye 2K SE... moving on up

This site has been awesome to read the last few years I have been on it! Besides the every day bickering between a few out there, the overall experience was very good and enlightening. It has helped me with TSB, custom installs/troubleshoots, and general FAQs.

I now am ending my 3yr lease with my 2K SE, and it was time to consider a 04 SE or a G35. 47K miles later on my 2K SE and it was a great car, I was real close to buying it out but with the used vehicle resale values dropping the buyout price was not very attractive. I am better off eating the loss for over mileage than trading it in later thius year or next a getting killed!

After 3 months of reading many posts, test driving both cars, and talking to dealers in NJ area I have come to the conclusion that the G35 is the right car for me. Picking up a G35 Leather w/Premium Pkg up this week!

The 2004 Maxima SE has a lot I like but some things I don't. Personally I can understand why they are now targeting different cars from the 4th & 5th gen (Accords, Camrys, Passats)... now they have moved up to Lexus, Acura, VW, Volvo territory. Unfortunatly there is a sibling called Inifiniti that is right there next to it. I think that the G35 is a "truer" sports sedan (ala BMX 330i, Audi A4). Don't get me wrong the '04 Max is a step up from the 5th Gen but I now think they are in pricing category where some very big boys play. The larger size I didn't care for, but they had to do it since the Altima grew up. The real decision came from the G35 power and handling. I live in East Coast and will be putting on Winter Tires to offset the rear drive issues (previously purchased for my 2K Max)

Anyway, I will be logging out of Max.org soon and loggin into the G35 forum soon. Good luck to all Max Heads out there!

Very good buy. You stall be happy with the performance and feel of the G. I feel the 04 Max is not a true Maxima anymore, it's now to bloated for me.
Have fun with the G.

Nice

Yeah I was considering 6MT coupe at first but the wife had something to say! The end result is 5A Leather Sedan. I was very close to getting a '03 leftover at my dealer but they didn't have the color I wanted, I personally like the 5th gen over the 6th gen. The G35 is a more classy compromise in looks, but overall power/handling performance is what sold me. My previous car (before Maxima) was a Mustang GT, so I miss the RWD days and the handling that comes with it. Winter is a different story, but now I have an excuse to call out of work!

If you don't mind me asking, are you leasing or buying the G35? If you're leasing, what monthly did they give you, for what time period, with how many annual miles?

I'm considering a G35 when the lease on my Max is up as well.

Thanks!

It is tough to negotiate when you have a end of lease $1500 upside down!
Next time I won't even mention it, keep the two deals separate. Work the numbers on the new car without talking about trading in, lease return, etc.

Anyway, they knocked $2K off the MSRP ($34,085) of the G35. Comes to $32K Leather w/Premium Pkg, plus Winter Pkg & mats. They said I could get a loan for 60 mo at ~4% through a bank (but those are some big payments), 4-yr Lease for 12K miles-per-year at $450, or 15K miles-per-year at $475 (nothing down except 1st month and tax & tags). I figure if I lease it for 4 years I am covered 4 yrs-60K miles with their warranty (a plus over the Maxima).

I probably could do better if I shopped around a bit, but they are a local Infinity dealer that was no pressure and great service... plus I am too busy at work to deal for weeks.

I also can't keep a car for more than 4 yrs, new stuff comes out that I like that better, so lease is the way I usually go! Maybe by then they will have an AWD Turbo G35, who knows?!

Best of luck!

You're right Maximam!

I hate to give advice, I just sit in the sidelines (every week) and see what's going on...

Someday I may be back with a 7th Gen Max!

Later.
