smoking brakes...PROBLEM

When i left the brake place today after thy reinstalled my new rotors....my right rear brake started to smoke a LOT. I got out the car and the pad and rotors seems scorching HOT. I took it back to the palce and we let it cool. They did some tests to the brakes(bleeding them) and it all started working. My rotors seems fine now except for a little rust because it looks like it got to hot or something. What the hell happened? Is this common?

Yeah, sounds like your caliper was sticking...maybe they cleaned it and didn't put the hi-temp grease on...might have just been bound up after they installed something...I guess you didn't have any more probs?

yeah i didnt have anymore problems yesterday. The rear right rotor now has a little rust inside the slots. After having the brakes stick, will or does that cause more problems? I just dont want my brakes to be messed up...

It sounds like they goofed up the reinstall. Hope fully you didn't go to far with the brakes sticking. If you start to get a vibration when you brake it probably means your have a warped rotor. Did they admit they might have messed up? If so let them know if there are any problems in the future they are going to fix them. That rust might be brake dust??? Good luck.

I'm pretty sure some surface rust is normal on brakes. All of my cars have rust (little) here and there on the brakes.

good luck

i'd have your brakes inspected again at someother place and let them know what happened. if you put new pads along w/ the rotors, they might be shot...improper bedding of the pads. just a recommendation.

It's also possible they forgot to correctly install your parking brake cable. This may have been left on and it would explain the rears smoking. Hope this helps.

like anything else, there is a proper "break-in" process. i'd worry about the pads.
