Extended warranty prices? Are these good/bad?
Yeah I would stick with the Nissan extended service because i've heard of other companies not providing what was originally stated in contract. At least with Nissan, you'll know or hope they'll do whats stated in the contract.
I went with Warrantydirect.com
$1325 for the super duper package 100K miles 5 year (i think) 0 deduct, which covers everything down to the sensors, audio, overheating, etc etc
They seem to have a good rep around the internet.
you don't state what type of warranty that is.... Nissan has 3 levels I think. Prices I'm sure vary widely. Also, is it $50 per visit, or per item?

that covered 5 years 75,000 I think....for my trouble with the altima, they bought that back and gave me silver preferred plus on my maxima which offered same coverage but with 0 deductible...
Personally, I think it's a waste of money to buy these extended warranties, directly from Nissan or not. Nissan dealerships make a HUGE amount of money by selling these warranties with an astronomical markup. I read somewhere that the $1200 warranty that it sells retail for around 500-600 bucks when they buy them from Nissan Corp. Essentially, it's another instrument of income that they can use.
Either way, on average, Maximas are pretty reliable cars, and I think shelling out a grand or more for an extended warranty with a low risk of having to use it is not wise IMHO. You already have a 3/36k B-B and 5/60K powertrain, so if you get the 6yr/100K for 1248, you're paying 1248 for 3yr/64k. That's about $400/yr during that span.
A family friend told us that he saw a study on TV (performed by one of those 20/20, 60 minutes type of shows) that found ext. warranties worthless for cars w/higher than average reliability.
That being said, if those $1200 will give you a piece of mind, then by all means go ahead and buy it. But make sure you bargain with the dealership as well, same way that you would for a new car price.

$1500 for 4yrs. more is nothing compared to a dead MAF or two, SECU, ignition coil or two, motor mount or two, power window motor, leaky sunroof, door switch, power seat, wheel bearing, etc... Plus, I'm looking to sell it between now and that point, so it will be easier to sell with a warranty.
Honda or Toyota, yeah I'd probably take my chances, but I've even seen them drop a water pump at 45K or alternator at 60K. No car is immune and at todays INFLATED service prices, I'd rather not worry about coughing up the loot.

....To date I haven't used the warranty, but then again, I drive the car really hard, so if something pops, I have my warranty!
I haven't used mine yet, but its also 5 years from the date of purchase of the warranty so basically 7 years from the date of manufacture or 100K miles. I had my Bose HU go under the bumper to bumper. I would guess...... maybe they'd charge me $900? or so to fix that. Assuming it happened after the 3 yr 36 the warrnaty would have almsot paid for itself.
I wasn't 100% on the warranty kick... I had loads of problems iwth my VW. If I kept it, I don't know how much I would end up paying over that time period.
Nissan has a better record.... but all it takes is 1 expensive repair or a few cheaper ones. No car is perfect.

Anybody have a breakdown of the different warranty's available, ie Silver, Gold, Plus Gold? Any others?
My initial post prices are for the "best" warranty Nissan offers, however I guess for the $50 deductible, which I don't mind.
