I was just wondering if 2002-2003 maximas make a whistling sound during slow accelaration. Is this normal. It is during first gear. It isn't when i'm turning. It's a whining sound like whistling.

perfectly normal, mine does it too

 

mine make a louder whining noise because I have an intake.

 

I run an injen, and it whines just the same. It has nothing to do with the intake. BMW Inline 6's do it too. (at least the 90-99 versions did)

 

oh I thought it was only my car.

 

my CAI along with straight pipe on my 99 max makes hte whistling sound.. i love it :P

Thanks for the question... mine has this same sound. Now that I know this is normal it sound kind of cool. It's loud enough that people look when driving slowly and of course since it's a hot maxima they look twice

My 03 SE has auto tranny whine. The car has 900 miles on it now, and the whine is louder than it was at 5 miles. It also takes it's time shifting 1-2, is there any fix for this, short of a shift kit? I plan to switch to Amsoil ATF after break-in.

I stick my head out the window and make the whining sound myself, sometimes when the mood is right I say "Woooshh~" so people think I have supercharge or turbo under the hood~

 

 

I have a experience that mobil 1 5w-30 makes less whining noise ( but who want that)., After using castrol sny the wining noise is like being in 740il, have every heard that big things sound, it is loulder than the inline 6.

 

No, mine does not make those sounds at all. It never has. In fact, I'm amazed at how smoothly and quietly the transmission shifts.

Both my 03 and my previous 01 were very quiet, no whine.
