Buy yourself a Pioner DEH840 MP headunit like I did, and it comes with on-steering wheel remote control..the cheapest solution

Your best bet would be to go with an aftermarket quality system with a remote switch tastefully and professionaly mounted on the wheel. I am bringing my 01 max in at 8am...4 hours from now because the stereo control on the wheel is cutting in and out. They said it is likely the spiral wire that goes in from the wheel mounted control to the stero. Nissan was nice enough to incorporate it into the airbag wiring harness so the part alone is 280.00, just for the wire...labor 150.00. Luckily if it is this piece it is covered under my 5/60. The moral here is it would be cost prohibative to add this stock feature. You'll probably get better reliability and sound quality aftermarket too. I recommend Nakamichi or Alpine. Hope it helped.
