I/ve never done it before but it is not difficult. Look at the how to section at the top and there is a write up on page 5.

Nissan recommends a change at 100,000 miles, but most here start at around 60,000. This is for those of us who use the platinum plugs.

If you use the other types (iridium or copper), you need to change them more often and you need to check the gap on those types.

What cleaning interval and solution are you guys using?

Can anyone share any detailed tips to make the back ones easier? They are a real PITA.

Re: spark plugs??

Uuuggghhhh!!!

I'm at 67K miles, so I decided to finally change the spark plugs today. I got all the right tools, and the front three were easy to do, but those back three...WHAT A PITA (Pain In The A**)!!!

First I thought it wouldn't be so bad since the back one closest to the passenger-side wheel was okay, except for some stretching on my part. But those last two plugs were a pain to get to. I had to remove the bar of my FSTB to get access to those plugs in the back.

For those who want to do it themselves, just go here for a write-up with pictures:

www.nissanx.net/tanman/

This write-up is for '00 and '01 Maximas, but '02s and '03s should be similar.

Get the plugs from eBay, be perpared with the proper tools, and be prepared to stretch your legs. But after it gets done, you'll be glad you did it yourself and saved some dough. It's not a hard thing to do, but thank goodness we only need to change them every 60K miles!

Peace.

Did mine a week ago. 2 back right one are the trickier of the 6. I had to take the accel cable out of the bracket to give a little more room to pull the coils out. Just do a little stretching so you don't pull something, haha. Its much eaier with a magnetic socket for the rear ciol bolts also. Clean the coils as best you can and be sure to use some dielectric grease on the boots to help w/contact to the plug when reassembling them. Take your time , it took me about an hour. Good luck.

Bosh Platinums - Sucks

I did mine last Friday and it was really easy. Took me 20 mins but only because I did them before. Just take you time the first time bu the second time is a breeze.

About Bosh Platinums, they are horrible plugs. I got them for my other japanese cars and they 1) didn't make the car feel better, 2) wore out too quickly. Never again. NGK all the way for all our japanese cars.

PS, they also stunk on my in-law's Jeep Laredo.

Be sure to clean those coils & boots, and apply silicone grease where necessary
(Don't want any fried ignition coils due to water contamination/shorting out/etc!)
