It was going to be a Sentra SE-R Spec V, for performance and style to an extent.
A Sentra as opposed to, say, a VW GTI 1.8T because I like having room for **** (like an amp/sub system in the trunk with trunk space left over for servers whenever I need to transport servers between my work office and the datacenter :-D)
But after riding in a coworker's used '00 Maxima (auto), I started thinking... how about a used Maxima? Nissan's flagship engine (VQ), doesn't have the issues that the new QR25DE has (excessive oil consumption on some), plus one thing I didn't like about the SE-R Spec V was reports from b15sentra.net that the rims crack easily, which sucks as I drive in Pennsylvania sometimes (PA roads _SUCK_). So hell, why not a used VQ-based car with PLENTY of room?
So I checked out autotrader.com and found a green Maxima SE 5-speed in Owings Mills. Decided to give it a test drive. The tan leather interior really had me excited, but the power, handling and smooth ride (as smooth as an SE model is, anyway) really had me sold.
I'm not too impressed with the brake juddering and plan to get it fixed soon, and I have a vacuum leak around the intake manifold/throttle area I need checked, but other than that, what a ****ing SWEET ride I bought. In some ways it feels too luxurious for me (automatic climate control, a moonroof that slides automatically, keyless entry, power windows... I'm used to old <= '90 junkers with no power features at all and slipping transmissions)
Added my sound system to it recently, and once I get the other stuff fixed (brakes/vacuum leak/slight rattle under the hood that might an exhaust bracket), this car would qualify as my dream car.
I grin every time I pass someone on I-95 going 80-90MPH in a car that rides so smoothly I could drive the speed limit and not notice a difference, as the car feels almost identical between 55 and 90MPH
It's an excellent balance between comfort, sport, style, performance and size. And it's a Nissan :-D

anyway... some people just know a hot looking, reliable, powerful, roomy, practical, affordable car when they see it. I'm on my third one. They're not perfect, but pretty close for the price. The perfect Maxima would have the new 6th gen hardware with the interior styling and front nose of a 5th gen. For me, the rear styling has always been just a little off. They finally design a great looking rear end for the Max and screw up the front.
What I want to know is if the engine parts for a 350z will fit on my 2003 maxima as they both have 3.5 v6
no sales person at my local dealerships know what is diff. between the engines.. only that one creates more HP.
I want to know if i need to buy a 350z cam, headers what ?
I want the power, more real power... not just freed up power

difference between the 350Z VQ and ours is a variable intake manifold right? i remember people talking about that. our torque is abuot the same as the Z and hp... well i'm guessing the intake manifold has something to do wtih that, along wtih the Z's exhaust setup. anyone read Nissan Performance Mag's dyno test of the performance exhaust they put on the Z, but it only gained 1 hp at high RPMs, or maybe 2 hp. very, very little gain. so i guess theres the extra power: more air/fuel in, more air/fuel out cause its more efficient. gotta get me some of those parts

But seriously, I bought my Max 2 years ago exactly and I still get excited when I drive it. I plan to keep this car forever, my son is 3 years old and he wants to drive it when he's 16.

I got my 2K max over 2 years ago slightly used.
After much research, I found that it is simply the best bang for the buck!
I like it because:
It's easy on the bank account, big inside, fast, fun to drive, comfortable, not too harsh on the eye, and has a cult like following and fair amount of aftermarket parts to upgrade as time and money allows.
This car is the only Japanese car that I would purchase. I'm more of a european car guy, however I could not resist the blend of practicality and performance of the Maxima!
