Acura CL Type S 6-spd

Last night I finally had a chance to race my buddy who just recently bought a CL type S 6-spd. I drive a 2k3 SE Auto/only mods are injen intake and Greddy exhaust. Well from start(0-70) he had about 1 car on me, then we raced from 20-90, it was dead even to about 60 but thereafter he was pulling away little by little. To be honest I wasn't that disappointed because I know what these cars are capable in six speed form. The only thing I was wishing for was a six speed tranny for my Max.

i bet a 6sp can take them off the line....on the highway it will be a tough race for the maxima since the CL-s are pretty good in 6sp top end

Did you even read his post?... It says in the second sentence that he owns a 2003 NISSAN MAXIMA.

lighten up pal. everyone over-reacts to little comments. if someone gets confused about somethin i write, i'll just re-word it. simple. no one gets mad even! haha anyways, TL-S is a good car, but i ran one last night and he couldnt quite keep up. i have 1/2 the run on video too... i pulled harder thru 1st gear, and it gave me enough to stay about a car ahead the whole run. excellent cars tho, i'd drive one

Hey, I see you honda owner, a quick question. Does new Accord Sedan V6 have dual exahust? I know that the V6 coupe does.
Last week when it was raining this guy on new Accord, not sure if it was V6 or not, but I think he only had one side exahust, took off as we were getting on the highway and I couldn't catch him.
Well in my defense I didn't really try that hard cause was afraid to fly off the road with my Pretenzas.

Well, if you weren't trying hard then we have a lot of options:

The 4 bangers aren't so bad, a buddy of mine has a 5-speed. They're still pushing a 2.4L i-Vtec

A common mod for V6 owners is a single side exhaust conversion. There's supposed to be an increase in performance....and it fools people in situations like yours!

I've raced my gf's 03 Max SE and an Altima SE so far in my CL-S, and the outcome was very similar to you experience. I walked away pretty good after 60-65mph. They were also both automatics. However, I haven't raced one from a stop, so I don't know how I would fare.

My friend used to own a 01 CL-S and he had nothing but problems. I thought about buying a CL-S myself until I read about all the problems they have with the transmission and a bunch of other stuff.

I guess to each his own.

The only problem I heard about with the CL (not to mention TL and Accord) is the auto tranny. Besides that they're solid cars and I almost bought the CL-S instead of the Maxima but I needed four doors and Acura wasnt going to give me a good deal on the TL-S (demand).

That said, are there any videos or stories out there of a Max 6MT racing a CLS 6MT? I'd be curious to hear about these encounters.

Yep, there is. I saw one a while back. It was a 6sp Max vs a 6sp CL-S on some back road. The CL-S was ahead by about 1.5 cars after 1/4 of a mile or so. I'll see if I can find that video.

Yeah I saw that one; it was an auto Max. An auto 2K2 Max wont stand a good chance against a well driven CL-S 6MT.

Same here, I've raced TL-S a bunch of times and have been successful most of the time, but the CL Type S six speed really moves, though I feel I would have beaten him if I had a Six Speed Maxima instead of an auto. By the way I saw the thread you posted (1/4 mile time) nice time by the way 14.8. I wonder how I would fair with my only mods being Injen intake and greddy exhaust.
