Help With Maintenance

I have a 02 maxima with 15k miles and got a report from the dealer to take it in for maintenance and charging $175 for it.

Automatic transmission/transaxle............periodically
Break & clutch master cylinders.............periodically
Fuel filter.................................Service as required
Power steering reservoir (1)................Inspect
Valve clearance.............................Service as required
Underbody...................................Servic e afer 12months
Air bags....................................Service after 120months
Tires.......................................Rotate
Crackcase...................................Change oil
Oil Filter..................................Change
Automatic speed control device..............Inspect
Drive Shaft boots...........................Inspect
Exhaust Systems.............................Inspect
Drive belts.................................Inspect
Brake Systems...............................Inspect
Transmission/transaxle......................Check level
Air cleaner element.........................replace
Cooling system..............................Change coolant
Fuel vapor lines............................Inspect
Steering linkage & suspension...............Inspect

As far as I can tell oil, filter, fuel & airfilter need to be replace and al far as tire rotate is all that is needed. all this other mambo jumbo like underbody, chk airbags, drive belts, valve clearance is too much for $175 . I can change the oil and other stuff for Under $175. What do you guys think?

All it's saying is you need to change your oil and filter, replace air filter and rotate tires. It also says change coolant but it's seems to early to do that and the fuel filter should be fine.

LOL...yeah, welcome to the dealer world. Where nothing is done and 175 bucks are charged. Do you thing they pop the valve cover and check it? Yeah right.

I would not do it. But thats me personally.

either change the oil yourself or just have them do it if you need it. just cause its 15k does not mean you need/have to change unless its due. check the air filter itself, fuel filter is good for a while on these cars. coolant should be done around every 25-30k at least in my climate.

guess what? I took it in this morning because the service-engine-soon light has been poping up and then it goes away, so they changed a H020sensor and reprogramed the ECU and now car runs like new. All I need to do now next weekend is the oil change because it needs it and everything should be fine .
Oh yeah I just got some springs to drop it but that's another story

the cabin filter price seems about right, you dont need fuel filter change. in fact, there have only been a few people on here that have replaced it as of now. air filter seems a few bucks high and the oil filter price should be for 2 at 11.

We're looking at less than $50 in parts'n'supplies, and maybe 3 hours of your time on a nice afternoon. Tranny oil and filter at 30K -40K, unless you drive it hard and race.

Any time they say "check" or "inspect" there's no way you can prove they did it.

Do it yourself. Take pride in your chariot and yourself.

Yep, see, most of the stuff is only for inspection, which means they only "take a look", sometimes they don't even inspect, they just change engine oil, filter and coolant. I think Nissan Dealer is no better than a general shop. You can get all these done by a general shop for about $100 or even less.
