Arggggh .. SES light .. P0135

It came on this morning. I took a trip to AutoZone, and got this P0135 It's something about 02 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction, Bank 1. The tech said I might just need the fuse instead of the 02 sensor. I looked in the fuse box but couldn't find anything about 02 sensor.

You guys had this problem before? Any help is welcome.

Thanks,

OK, your Maxima has 4 connectors at the very front of the engine. The first 2 moving from L to R go to the bank 2 upstream and downstream sensors respectively.

The next connector to the right goes to the bank 1 upstream sensor. The other bank 1 sensor (downstream) wires run up to the connector that can be found over the R side fender. If you unplug those connectors, check for 12V heater supply. If that's good, ohm the 2 wires (black & red/black..I think) that go to the O2 sensor and I think they should be around 5 ohms. If you have an open, then that could be your problem....and you would measure infinite resistance.

Really? What a rip-off. One could go to ebay all day long and get the Actron for 100.00. I bought one last week for 150.00 at AutoZone only because I had to have it THAT DAY.

Geez, it's really a rip-off. They want $80 for a 5 min job????? We get it for free in PA, (finally there's something actually free ) probably on the entire east coast ... am i right?

Oh BTW since you mentioned PepBoys. I went to PepBoys for spark plugs the other day. They want $24/each for Platinum NGK's. Those are not in stock. I called Dave B and got them for about $8.50/each (platinum NGK). Looks like I might have to call him again.
Manny, Moe and Jack are up to no good

Thanks, guys. I will check it out tomorrow morning, been working all day.

Thanks man. I tried unplugging the battery cable to reset the ECU but the light came back 2 days after. I found this link for all nissan codes + others

P0135 is actually the Front bank 1 sensor which is the one near the engine compartment firewall. My questions are:
1/ Can you do this by yourself?
2/ After replacing the sensor do you need the consult II / reset the ECU to clear it or it'll take care of itself?

Sure, you can do it. Just get the socket..it's a special type socket that allows the wires to go through. Also take it out while it's warm...as I've heard. Just be careful...of course. If you have a digital voltmeter, you might want to test the sensors back there, just for confidence.

I haven't tried clearing a code by unhooking the battery..since I have a scanner....but it sounds like you already have sucessfully done that.

I have cleared codes before just by replacing the faulty part and simply cranking it up....so you might give that a shot.

I had the same code and replaced the sensor. Yes they are tricky to get to but relatively easy, like unscrewing a spark plug. However after I proudly replaced my 02 sensor, the light came back on. It needed a reflash. The code can be irrelevant. Go figure. Don't be quick to throw down the $. Have the dealer do this so that if the light comes back on your covered.
FYI- unplugging the battery- though a good idea, doesnt work on the new ECU'c. The light will always come back on.
