Yet another Wind Noise thread
Yet another Wind Noise thread
I know we have beaten this topic to death, but thought I would share…
I had the pleasure of recruiting a family member to the Maxima family. My father-in-law was looking for a car and my neighbor had a 94 Max for sale. He bought it new and maintained it well. It had some recent light hail damage, he opted to keep the insurance check and sell the car cheap so we snatched it up. FinL came to Nashville from Alabama to pick up his car. On his way home, I decided to ride with him a short way to get him underway and in the right direction, wife followed.
After riding in his 94 with 110,000 miles and then immediately getting into my 2003 GLE, it was even more apparent how noisy our cars really are. I was totally disgusted. His car is sooo much quieter at 80 than mine. I pulled over and asked my wife to drive so I could sit in back and find the noise. That little 8 inch bar that separates the baby corner window from the main window in the rear door is the culprit. Toward the top, if you squeeze together the two rubber seals that meet in the center of the bar, you will hear much of the noise disappear. I notice on the outside that this area of my rubber strip looks like is has pulled away slightly from the molding that separates the two glass panels. I think that filling this little gap on the outside with some black silicone would help eliminate the noise. Also, filling the underside area where the two rubber seals meet on the inside may help also. Do I35 owners complain about wind noise in their cars?
