Poor performance 00 max

I need some serious help here with my 00 max. I hope someone has had the same problem with a solution to it. Over the past couple of months my car has been intermittantly knocking and has hesitation. One time it knocked so bad I couldn't drive over 20 mph. The stupid car didn't even throw a code! I took my car in and spent $300 on a new MAF, since that's what they said the problem was. It ran fine for a week and started again. Took the car in a second time and they blamed the K&N filter. SO i took that out and replaced with a Nissan filter. Then it was fine for a bout two weeks and has doen it again. Now Nissan tells me they don't know what to do and they won't even look at it because they can't duplicate it. Since it does it periodically it's hard to get it to do it when they have it. I saw the TSB on the hesitation and knock, but Nissan said that doesn't apply to my car. Also are the coils covered under the 60,000 mile warranty? Thanks

I had the same problem, it was my coils. All 6 went out at 36k miles, 1,000 miles past my warrenty. 600 dollars total cost. 60 dollars a coil, so it might be worth doing it yourself. Sorry man, raw deal. YAY NISSAN!!!

How many miles do you have on your Maxima?
If you're checking for any parts that may play a role in your problem,
IMO, the 1st item to check is the spark plugs. I changed mine at 40,000 miles. Nissan states it can go 100,000 before changing. But I don't think it's realistic. Since I've changed the plugs, the VQ revs smooth throughout the rev range. I changed to Autolite Platinum AP3924. BTW, I have a K&N drop-in filter that I installed at 2000 miles. It has no negative effect on the the VQ. The dealer just wants to see you use OEM parts. (and claim that if you don't it voids warranty)

I have 55,000 miles on it. The problem is that if is electrical it would just quit working. My car may do this for a couple of times one day and then not do for a week or two. Nissan America is worthless. I get the same to excuses 1. that's not covered by warranty or your just past the warranty period on that item or 2. We can't get it to duplicate the problem, which to me is just a way out. This is my first and last Nissan product. I don't see why they don't have recalls on these items that are known problems. The easiest and cheapest thing they can do is issue TSB's and hope the customer comes in after the warranty period.

The coil packs are known to be problematic on the 00-01 3.0 V6... sounds like a coil pack (or two, or three) to me.

Check coils, change spark plugs, clean throttle body, for just a few suggestions.

Does anyone know of a way to check the coils with a multi meter or some other tool. Also the people who have had problems with the coils, was the problem intermittant or constant? Thanks for all of the suggestions and help!

Intermittant. I had one go out in Feb at under 30k miles. The problem was worse when the car was cold. Didn't throw SES light until it went out completely.

It's your coils, period. And when you replace them, I'd suggest you install new spark plugs as well.

www.motorvate.ca

This site should have a write up with photos. I used this when I clean the TB.
