Best place to buy from?

I'm looking for front and rear sway bars, where is the best place to buy from? Like with my last car there where places that said they had parts in but it still took 2 months to get something in, also who usally has the best prices on engine and suspension mods with good customer service.

Thanks
Dave Lott

Yeah we have one of those too, it's called custommaxima.com.

There's a seperate forum for Vendors filled with all kinds of info and recommendations from org members. I think you'll find what you need there.

Re: Best place to buy from?

www.Cattman.com has great rsb for 110 plus whatever shipping they charge, way cheaper than stillen. For front sway bars you can go many different ways. I have the strut bar from Procarparts, its a stillen look a like, but it does the same thing. That goes for 57.95 plus shipping. Ebay strut bars are really cheap, their strut bar rub against your engine. Sucks. good luck

What rubs against the engine???
I have one from e-bay and I don't see it rubbing against my engine!
It does work the same as the stillen one. I bet you would not feel the difference between stillen strut bar and the one from e-bay.

Question about the Otto Racing STB (from procarparts)...
I can't tell from the picture, but can it be preloaded? I can't tell if there is a threaded rod at the "far end."

what the heck do you mean by "preloaded"?

The OTTO FSTB (NOT a "front sway bar"... a front STRUT tower bar) works great on a Max, looks great, and only costs $57.95 (plus shipping on the ProCarParts web site, or you can finagle one for only $60 SHIPPED from their EBay auctions).

...if I understand correctly, the STB should be installed preloaded with tension...isn't that why most of them have the threaded end?

...BTW, I think he meant to say Strut Tower Bar. How many people are replacing front sway bars?

The OTTO doesn't need to be preloaded. It's VERY easy to install.

Is there not a difference in effectiveness between a preloaded bar and a non-preloaded bar?

Sorry, I'm new to this forum. I'm used to seeing "Strut Tower Braces" (not these flimsy looking "bars") that are made of at least 1" diameter chrome-moly or steel and triangulated between the strut towers and the firewall.

SORRY ABOUT LAST POST, I MEANT FRONT STURT BAR FOR THE OTTO BRAND. It doesnt need to be preloaded as said before, its just a easy screw in job. And what I said before, if you own a 2002-2003 max, them cheap ebay strut bars you get for 13.99 will rub against this metal thing ( i dunno what it is), because the bar is just too damn low.

The 'metal thing' it sometimes rubs against (not on ALL Maximas) is the intake manifold.

Dave...what year car do you have?

My Courtesy FSTB on my '01 works/fits perfectly. I've heard that '02+ models had some rubbing issues when accelerating. I couldn't be happier with mine.

Yes, it is nice to see that they are FINALLY offering them up cheaper on EBay... it is a GREAT deal... it is essentially a chrome Stillen-style FSTB at less than half the price of a Stillen!

Yes, the quality of the metal in your FSTB is far superior to the metal used in mine. Mine was actually custom created by gluing together rolls of tin foil.

I sooooooo wish I had paid $60 for the better product. I'm sure you can truly feel the difference in handling between the two. And we all know that "Otto" is an extremely reputable company.

It seems like custommaxima has the best price on fsb and rsb but are those bars any good, and it seems like some people on this board don't care for them. Southwest Autoworks prices are much higher for the bars well compared to custommaxima.

All of the bars are the same, unless you are going after looks. RARELY has a FSTB had problems hitting the manifold. I had my Bomz bar on my 2K and my 2K2 with zero problems.

boms are nice strut bars (same price as procarparts), so are stillen, but stillen pretty expensive. I bought otto because it looks pretty nice. And i will enjoy my $60 stick of metal, i like the looks, better than paying 150 for the stillen.

As for the cheap ebay strut bars, I bought one of those too, i ended up selling it to my friend because he has a 2k max. For some reason, that 2k3 manifold is in the way of the strut bar.

Choices Choices.....

Yeah ok, if you say so. I guess it must be a matter of time before mine starts rubbing then. Or NOT. Man, why do people just run with stuff that they heard from "someone". If you would have tried it out yourself then you would KNOW that those ebay braces don't rub.

You sure you bought the right FSTB? As in the one for the max? They only fit one way and there is no rubbing.

The 95-99 ones will rub on the manifold. He could have been sent the wrong one if he really did have trouble with it.

By the way, the ebay ones are the same as the procarparts ones.

Asu is LEGENDARY for buying quality parts, no matter what the price is. If he feels his $13 fstb does the trick, who are you to tell him it doesn't.

Southwest Autoworks price is higher because it's a Stillen bar and $tillen is always more expensive. I'm sure custommaxima's bars are very high quality, if you don't care how long you have to wait I'd order from them. It seems other .org members have had to wait a while to get their bars. Just my .02
