make sure to use the torgue wrench to tighten the lugs and stock rotors aren't that bad, trust me. After 2 sets replaced under wtty, I learned my lesson. 25K mi and knock on wood, no probs!

I'm considering Raybestos PG-Plus rotors (not interested in super high performance, and I've heard resurfacing drilled/slotted rotors can weaken them...)

Mine are getting so ****ing bad I'm about ready to purchase the rotors right now and throw them in with a set of Raybestos QS pads... **** going to the dealer for a resurfacing.

BTW, anyone have a recommended site for buying Raybestos rotors & pads? I checked out rockauto.com (I think) but they didn't have the QS pads for the fronts I believe... their prices were great for the rear rotors though!!

(I'm replacing my rears as well because my rear rotors are rusted on the braking surface... heh)

My rear rotors were making a scraping sound that was audible while coasting at low speeds with the window open. The sound would disappear when the brakes were applied, and reappear when the brakes were let off. The dealer told me that they simply had rust on them, so they refinished the rear rotors and told me to drive around on them for a bit. So far, the scraping sound has been greatly diminished and is almost non-audible now. I suspect that minor warping of the rotors was what caused the scaping sound, and not the rust. What to you guys think?

So, you are running on stock rotors with stock pads now? And no problems at all after 25k?? Mine seem to warp every 17k.
What are the proper torques for the wheels???
thanks.

Sounds like seized caliper to me, nothing to do with rotors. If you see that part of the working rotor surface is rusted than you definetely have caliper sliding pins seized. Rust simply means that pads don't touch some of the rotor surface. Well, resurfacing rotors would help but not for long, I'm afraid. You need to clean up those sliding pins making sure that caliper can move along them.

I've got over 21,000 miles on my 2002 Max. I keep the stock rims/tires for winter and I have 18 inch rims with tires I switch every spring and fall.
Get a quality torque wrench. I usually tighten to 80 lbs. and have had no problems with my rotors to date.

I installed Brembos. No drills or slots. Great after 5000+. Also added semi-metallic pads. A little squeal at crawling low speeds, but I can feel the improvement in stopping power.
I'm happy.
