CD Text on 2003 Bose?
#6
uh, yes it does. Its just most retail CDs don't have cd-text. Hit the PTY button while you got the CD playing. It cycles through CD title, track title, and no title.
Hit the Auto P. button to see the rest of the text (it cuts off at like 7 characters).

That sounds promising!!
Do you have any cd's that have cd text? I'm pretty sure when we make our cd's there probably is a way of doing that. Have any ideas?
Thanks!!

Yes, it is possible. If your head unit has RDS and if you burn your cds from mp3s that has ID3 tags or ID2. In other words if the mp3 is tagged, then it will show up on your head unit, but since the one in the Bose doesn't scroll across, the text is very limited. Try downloading a software called "Dr.Tag" to edit id3 tags. ID3/ID2 displays the song's title/artist/year/track/genere etc.

Also, there aren't many CD burners that can burn text on a music CD either.

I was unaware you could play MP3's. My manual doesn't say anything about it. It thought I tried the Nav CD, but it didn't recognize the MP3 disk, does the changer?

Does anyone know which CD burning software will enable CD text reading on the Bose HU? It looks like NERO will do it. Anyone know if Easy CD Creator 5 will do it?
I used to have a Minidisc player in my old car and LOVED how it would display the band and track title. I would love to able to have a similar feature in my BOSE!

If you're burning mp3s to an audio cd, both nero and easy cd 5+ will automatically take the names from the mp3s and put them as CD-text. In nero, in the burning settings make sure you have 'use cd-text' checked. There you fill in the cd title, author, etc too. I'm not sure about easy cd but I know the last time I tried it it put the text on there.
Just about every cd/dvd burner except the very first gen CD burners (>4x) do cd-text. Check the checkmark in nero for cd-text when you first start making an audio CD, you'll know pretty quick whether your burner supports it or not as it'll give you an error if it doesnt support it when you go to burn.
If you're burning from wavs or from mp3's without the info in them, in nero once you add the tracks to the CD you can right click the track and go to properties and put in the info manually. I'm sure easy cd has something similar but I don't have it on here so I can't say for sure.
But, cd text on the bose really sucks. A) it doesn't autoscroll so you have to hit the button to see the rest of the song name b) when you are viewing the title the track info is gone (track #, cd #, track time) c) if you get to a CD without text it just sits there with NO TITLE on there instead of resetting back to normal. you can tell the cd-text feature was a last second thing the clarion people stuck in there so they could put it on the brochure

Dumba$$...try actually reading my post next time before you reply and tell me to do something I have already done 1000 times. Scroll up, I already said my 3 year old 8x HP burns audio text when using Roxio 5 or Nero. So do both of my new ones. Look at how many people in this thread say they can burn text on audio CDs and you're sitting here saying that "only a few burners on the market can do it". You have no idea what you're talking about so just stop. I have burned audio text with...
1) My 3-4 year old 8x HP CD burner, which I gave to my sister and she still uses to this day. (Burning audio text to her CDs which shows up on her aftermarket car head unit I might add.)
2) My newer 24x HP CD burner.
3) My 4x HP DVD burner.
4) My 24x that came with my Dell at work.
