Grinding feel at 18mph and below
Has anyone had problems with a grinding type feeling on deceleration at about 18mph and then again about 5 mph? I've tried it in neutral, with the engine on and off and with or without the brakes applied and still the same. I had my brakes done about 4 months ago and can't remember if I felt it before. Could it be bearings?
Thanks,
Bill

Yea, I've got it. And I'm sick of it. Haven't been to a dealer yet. Let me know if you find out anything. My Max has been a very frustrating experience. Vibrations, broken fog lights, peeling paint on both rear door jambs, tires that can't be balanced. A real QUALITY piece of equipment. If I could afford it, it would be traded tomorrow. AND all this is on a car that has 7400 miles on it since I bought it last Oct. I tried out a '96 Subaru with 132,000 miles on it yesterday and it rode and drove better than the MAX.
Which made me feel even better. NOT.

Does it happen about 2000 RPM? This is a coomon problem with the Maximas. Shows up as a pedal vibration, roughness and lack of power around 1800-2000 RPM. So far I've seen a lot of people on here with the problem but no one with an explantion.

<<How did you check for grinding with the engine off?! I thought you heard it while decelerating>>
Sorry - I guess when I said "decelerate", I meant when it was rolling to a stop. It will actually be constant if I stay right at 18 or 19mph.
And when I say grinding, I'm not talking about a loud sound I can hear. It's that feel you get holding the steering wheel and being able to feel slight vibrations (which I can only describe as a "grinding feel")

This may be related to a warped rotor issue. There's a TSB out for it, which basically states that the rotors should be cut with an on-car lathe, not off the car, and there's a procedure to be followed. Take a look at the TSB sticky thread, there's a scan of this exact TSB there.
