I tried an over simplified version with parts from Lowes and there was not enough clearance to make it work. If I or someone else had access to a full machine shop I know one could be made.

While we are on the topic of short throw shifters, I was wondering what a good one for a y2k would be. I know that pace setter makes one and so does Stillen. Are ther others? Which one would you guys recommned.

don't wanna be stupid when i ask this. how's the layout of the 350 gearbox. same thing also? cause nismo has a STS for the 350's out already. yes, i know the engine mounting is differenting, but if the gearbox is the same, "shouldn't" it fit.

The 350Z gearbox is nothing like the fwd gearbox in the Maxima. It's a rwd transmission with an output shaft that exits out the back and it's not a cable shifted unit. The FWD tramsmissions house the differential and have two axle outputs for the drive wheels.
On top of all that, Nissan virtually copied a BMW design for the 350Z transmission.

Matt do you think this would work? This is just a basic description BTW.

If you cut the shifter arm a measured amount, grind a small flat spot on it and drill a small dimple in it for a setscrew type handle. Then cut the same amount of plastic out of the sliding reverse stop, re-attach the two ends of the reverse stop using a plastic weld type product.

maximaman777=I'm sure that could be made to work, however I would first like to find out more about some of the production STS.
So you guys have not tried any of the real shifters?

You have a 2k Max there are shifters for you. Although, hence the title of this thread, there are not any out for 2k2+ cars.
