I just received the following e-mail from Dave at Random Technology:
"As it turns out, we had a converter to fit the 2000-2001 models all along. It's part number 822530 and it's the same one that fits the 99 models. Thanks to your efforts, a local Maxima owner contacted us and brought his car in for us to do a trial installation. We installed our part number 822530 and it fit beautifully. We haven't had an opportunity to do a comparative dyno test, but we should be able to get to that in the next few weeks."
Go get 'em!

wow, it makes that big of a difference? so if i get a full mandrel bent exhaust w/ free flowing muffler, y-pipe, hi flow cat, and CAI i should be looking at around (175+5+15+10+10=) 210-215hp to the wheels? w/my stock exhaust setup and this what is the estimated gain? $160 sounds like a great deal...does this just basically replace the catalyt converter (sp?)?

Yes, it replaces the main cat.

WILLSE or anybody who goes by the shop,
Can you find out if they sell direct to the public from their shop? I know they sold it to you at X price, but you were their test specimen. I was thinking about just going by their shop (note: I live in Atlanta). Would the price be the same if I went by there vs ordering from an online retailer, per se? I suppose I could just call them, too.

I don't think there will be much if any gains, due to our exhaust being
so open, I would hope to see improvements but I think some one dropped their exhaust and back on a dyno and got almost n gains. But I hope to be corrected once they dyno.

No, the RT cat doesn't add the power they say it does. My 4th gen Max is making 176fwhp/193fwtq with the OSCAI, B-pipe, RT cat, and Y-pipe. When I added my RT cat, the gain, if any, was hardily noticeable. I noticed a lot more hp and torque with the B-pipe.

As Dave B said, it'll probably not give that much at the wheels. From what I've read in these forums, the RT Cat added around 3 hps. I highly doubt it'll be 8+ for us, but we'll soon find out when WILLSE dynos his car.

Does anyone know that if RT has fixed the leaking problem I heard some time ago??Or it doesn't apply to 5th gen max?
So anxious to see the Dyno number too.....

as long as it's installed correctly, it shouldn't be a problem.

A note on installation . . .
DO NOT FOLLOW THE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED WITH THE CAT!
The instructions indicate that the cat should be installed so that, when laying under thc vehicle with your feet out the rear, you can read the numbering stamped into the cat. If you can read the numbering stamped into the cat, you just installed your cat upside down. Start over.
To install the cat correctly, look for an arrow marked "FLOW" on the side of the cat. Install the cat using this arrow as a guide. And make certain the heat shield is on the bottom, not on the top.

Power gains ???
I've learned never to believe what any manufacturer says about power gains. For instance, let's say that you replace a stock catalytic converter with 50,000 miles on it with a brand new stock converter. Will you realize a power gain? Probably. Now let's say you replace the used stock converter with a new high flow converter. Will you realize even more of a power gain? Probably.
So the test that really needs to be run to properly compare apples-to-apples is a NEW stock converter versus a NEW high flow converter. Has anyone including Random Technology run such a test? Probably not.
Having said that, I DO notice a little better throttle response with the RT cat installed. I also notice a little more exhaust drone in the cabin.
