Service Engine Soon No!!! *****!!!!

The damn thing just threw a code out of nowhere I know its not the MAF because it goes to 5500k when I get on it. I checkeed the gas cap but it was tight as hell. The car runs fine I dont get it. The car has 81k on it (2000 max) but all the maintenance has been done. Could it be the K&N drop in filter?

Don't worry it may just be that you bought a poor quality gas. I had the same thing happen to me two weeks ago with my 2k1 (26k miles)and I reset it. However I also had the same problem with my Honda prelude at the same time. The only constant was the Exxon gas (Super)I bought on Flatlands (BKLYN NY).

Hmmmm...I did fill up with arco instead of chevron but it was still 91. 02 sensor might be it. However, I took the car in to smog to complete the change of title/ownership (yeah I lagged on it) and the car passed with FLYING COLORS I mean the maximum amount of Hydrocarbons is like 56 I had 18

Yes I also do 91 in the car. However when I returned to the gas station the owner told me that sometimes there are instances of water being in the gas mix. I do not know how true but I am just teeling you what he said

if there is an autozone near by then i would have the code pulled. if its a bad o2 sensor then the mileage will go down which can outway the cost of replacing the sensor in the long run.

my friend had a 2k max and at exactly 80k the light came on. The car still ran fine with no problems at all. He took it in and sure enough, an 02 sensor it was.

Replaced, reset & off the light went.

I didn't know this. Time to replace my O2 sensor .. lol
I thought it had nothing to do with mileage that's why I've been ignoring the annoying SES for more than 2 weeks. (Yes I did go to Autozone)

Ok update I was on my way to L.A. when shudder shudder hesistation **** engine light flashes I turn around and park my car back at my house and say to myself *****!!! Anyway so I call previous owner and homeboy says he didnt perform 60k mile service i.e. didnt replace spark plugs could this be it? Someone else told me it could be a vacuum leak? wtf? Then someone else told me the defective ignition coil pack what do you guys think? (or is it just the 02 sensor and I should shut up and buy one?)

you are either going to have to take it to the dealer or find a person with a OBD-II diagnostic tester. you should be able to find a local mechanic with the tester and they should not charge as much as the dealer. the worst thing you can do is guess what it is and try to replace it.

cylinder misfire doesn't necessary automatically mean the spark plug.

It might be the coil pack.

Ok thats cool. For peeps on the west coast I highly recommend Greg Vogel from Mossy Nissan Oceanside www.mossyperformance.com. The dealer where I live wanted 95 bucks per coil, so I called Greg V and he knocked a couple bucks off for me. Mainly because I am a member of SE-R club but you can see if he'll give discounts to maxima.org members.
