Ignition Coil recurring problem - please help!
Ignition Coil recurring problem - please help!
OK, here it is.
I have now been back to Middletown Nissan (NY) at least 5 times for the same problem. I love my Max and it usually drives great until I feel it misfires, on comes the CEL and the codes indicate P1320.
So I brought it to Maxima the first few times and they replaced the coil that misfired.
After the second or third I brought it back and convinced them to change all of them. They argued with the warranty company and finally agreed to do it at no cost.
Two weeks later I am back there for the same thing and they claim it is a problem with the wiring harness. They tell me they identified the problem (in the harness) and I should never have the problem again.
Two weeks later I am back.
This time they admit they have no idea what the problem is and they want to keep the car for a few days and they offer me a loaner. I am thinking they may give me a Max in return or at the very least an Altima. They give me a ****ing Kia Rio wagon!!!!!
This thing had no radio, reeked of smoke and had less pick up then my Grandmother. A few times I saw myself in the rearview mirror and I almost had to pull over and kick my own ***.
I call up two days later and ask if progress has been made on my car and they say no. I tell them that something must be done about this piece of crap they gave me and they tell me to come in so they can change it.
They then give me a Kia Optima which is a definite upgrade but its no Maxima.
My question is since the dealership cannot fix the car and I have been there several times for the same reason what are my options?
The car is a 2000 that I bought from the dealership, used with 30K miles on it. It now has 52K miles.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Ignition Coil recurring problem - please help!
im no expert in the field but i would look up lemon laws that are applicable to your state. ive heard if a vehicle goes in for the same repair for more than however many times in a certain amount of time they have to replace the vehicle. i had never heard of that until an exgirlfriend's mother had her S80 replaced after numerous recurring problems. her mother was a corporate attorney which i am sure helped though.
I'm not sure, but I don't think lemon law applies to used cars (at least not in Maryland)... or if it does, the dealership where I bought mine lied (or was misinformed).

hey, I am pretty sure this is a lemon law case. If it is still under warranty and they cannot fix the problem in X amount of times, it should be replaced or purchased back from you. Here is the US National Lemon Law attorney's phone number. I currently have a case with them right now also. Ask for Larry Smith and tell him Shaun Ladd referred you. 1-888-MY-LEMON --- 1-888-69-53666. Good luck and be patient, cause those type's of things take time.

Lemon Law
Shaun,
I was thinking about researching the Lemon Law possibilty but to be honest I really just wanted my car back (fixed).
Thanks a million for your suggestions and for the number. I will definitely mention that I was referred by you.
Hopefully things go my way...for once.

Hey this may sound silly but it could be the maf. I have a 2k gle and threw no codes at all but ran horrific ie:no acceleration, stalling ,misfiring etc, the dlr had 5 or 6 hrs into diag time to figure it out. They eventually pulled in another 2k in and started swapping parts as soon as my maf was on the other car it ran terrible and they also found a bad o2 sensor but that is not going to cause a severe drivability prob. I got it back and put new ngk plats in and a new set of coils and could not be happier with the way it runs now. Good Luck.
ignition coils
there are 6 coils in all. the dealer will only replace them one at a time (as they misfire). See if they will replace them all at once (hopefully it is still under warranty because he said it would cost $700).
Let me know how it goes.
