If I were to get bitten by the 'gotta have a fun car to mod' bug, I would choose a Porsche 944 Turbo...awesome brakes, suspension, chassis; all it would need would be an engine rebuild and the standard turbo tweaks.

Da-yam!
Yeah...but then you kinda look like a 911 wannabee...

But, then again, if you're thinking along the lines of WRX or EVO, you don't care too much about looks anyways, right??

Ezzzactly...

I really do think the 944s were (are) lovely cars...IMHO, better looking than the 911 versions of those years with their add-on bumpers, etc.

Now, the 996's are whole 'nuther matter altogether..those cars are -but if I as much as hint I want one, my wife will ensure I will need Viagra forever because she will attempt to remove my *********....capish?

the WRX STI is definitely sweet, but IMO they're totally "little boy toys" not for us grown men.

Now this is another matter.

Im talking about a road coarse of course. Give those to cars say a 2 mile course with a few hairpin turns and put them head to head or run them seperately and the EVO will come out on top. By the way when I was in Japan I saw the Races between these two cars. Japanese Spec EVO vs Japanese SPEC STI with the usual modz and the EVO put the slap down about 80% of the time. Thats in quarter mile plus drag racing. But like I said Enter the Skyline GTR on either and game over. Heck put say a 1000 HP Skyline up against anything, yes I said 1000 HP and it will put the smack down. A guy in Japan was running just that. The coolest thing to see that thing run and hear the Huge Turbo spool up and blow off! Da, Da, Da, Da, Damn!!

Funny, in all the tests that I read, the performance of these two are so close, the main difference would be the driver. And which "track" do you mean? The 1/4 mile track? Again mostly a driver's race. But these cars are RALLEY derived cars and not 1/4 cars. They just happen to perform well in the 1/4 by default.

Well for one that's in Japan, no here. 2. we aren't talking modded versions. 3) 1,000 hp is not what it used to be. There are 1,000 hp Supras here in the usa and there is a big block V8 putting out 1,000hp in NA form.

So my point again, it's basicly a driver's race.

Everything I have ever heard and read gives this car good performance reviews, but that's about it. And I tend to agree. It's a fast car. So is the new Neon everyone is talking about. But speed/handling is about it. Everything I have seen says this car has VERY crappy interior. Everything looks cheap and "plasticy". I can just imagine the rattles that would accrue after about 2 years, esp if you drive the hell out of it. I don't know man. Being fast is great, but that alone doesn't cut it for me. Plus the fact that I absolutely HATE the exterior styling. That's just my $0.02 though. Good luck w/ your decision!
