$450 for a new window motor?

Basically, the auto-up feature on my max is all f'ed up. It goes all the way up, then back down like 6 inches on its own. I know I've read about this before. Dealership tried a couple things to fix, cost me $80, but no luck. Next step is to get a new window motor, but for $450?!! Is that right?! Car is over warranty, this feature just isn't worth that much to me.

That's gotta be a bunch of ****.
I just checked my AlldataDIY subscription for my 2k max, left window motor is $160.65 (OEM part # 807312Y901)
Although the right front motor is $228.00 (OEM part # 8073089913)

Actually that's odd, 'cause the right front, and both rear window motors are >$200, yet the left front is $160 (and yet the left front can do automatic up/down, if that's not part of the switch)

Interesting.. thanks for the info. Based on that, I guess I'll have to decide whether it's worth a couple hundred bucks for me to have that feature back. The down works, just not the up. Strange. Thanks for the heads up though, glad I didn't go through with it.

Did you try resetting? My sunroof stopped working one day, I disconnected the battery for a few minutes and reconnected, I guess that will reset power windows and sunroof... try that.

Sounds to me like if you spent $80 to the dealer to fix, and they didn't, then they SHOULD TRY AGAIN.....FOR FREE.

actually to reset the sunroof after a power loss, you close it fully or press the tilt roof button until it's fully closed then hold it for 5 seconds. that synchronizes the location of the sunroof with the switches.
as far as window control goes, could it possibly be the window control and not the motor. i mean i dont' know what it could be, but that's also a situation. btw, the main window SWITCH is about $115 from daveb. i had ot have it switched after i fried it (stupid project)

or, another suggestion. if you're good at electronics, tap a window module onto your alarm. all windows become one touch up and down (dont' press it all the way, just tap, and tap again to stop) and when you arm the car, windows roll all the way up. the b!tch part of this is 4, yes, FOUR, wires have to be run from EACH door panel to the module, then to the alarm. it's a PITA, but man i love it. get out of the car, walk away, arm, they all roll up, you smile.

working on the sunroof, that's a tricky one. all i know is that it's voltage regulated and i can get it to fully open, which is what i DON'T want.

Dude I have the same problem with my Max. I just bought me a used window regulator from a crashed 2003 Max. I will install it this weekend. Let me know what you did and if it worked. Why werent you able to get it fixed at the dealer?

$450 is crazy... Maybe they are talking a new switch ($150) and a new motor ($150-200?) and then marking it up and charing you more labor?

Motor won't fix, and is too pricey anyways... The reset procedure will fix for me, and it lasts 6 months (from summer to winter or vice-versa...) It can be done with a phillips screwdriver. I can scan the pages from the manual, but don't know how/where to post.

I'm assuming that the dealership's quote of $450 probably included labor? Still too much!

I believe, all you need to do is to reset driver window limit switch:

RESET PROCEDURES NFBT0008S02
After installing parts, proceed as follows:
1. Close the door window completely.
2. Press the reset switch and open the door window completely.
3. Release the reset switch. After making sure the reset switch
has returned to the original position, close the door window
completely.
4. The limit switch is now reset.
CAUTION:
Be sure to manually open or close the door window. (Do not
use the automatic open-close procedures.)
As far as I could see reset switch is located on the driver door. You can see it if you remove trim. It hides in the hole below window regulator. May be - behind regulator motor, drawing is not clear about it. Looks like a **** 2-3 mm in diameter. I think, that switch went out of wack and fools system into thinking that something got into window way instead of saying that it's all the way up. System retracts window as a result that is perfectly normal.

My pleasure . I've never seen it in reality and didn't feel like removing the door trim so thanks for correction. BTW, easier on caps, please.
