Bad Gas Mileage -visited dealer, nothing wrong? Suggestions?
It's a newly acquired 02' auto w/15K and after bout 900 miles of driving, it's only giving me approx. 14-15 mpg from the fill er' up method calculation. Car computer tells me I'm getting about 16-17mpg now although we know that's off.
I took the car for service at Biener at Great Neck to have them check this out and say they've found nothing wrong, no codes, not the oo2's ,etc. Also told that this is normal for this type of car. The car is moderately driven in terms of driving style and with about a 50/50 mix of city/hway.
I noticed that after I did an oil change, mileage went up bout 1-2 mpg. Tire pressure is good. I will replace the air filter just for kicks. Any other suggestions? I know this car should give me at least 20mpg no? Thanks!

there are literally hundreds of posts on how to increase your mileage, please search on the test site and check them out. In the meantime
1. don't rev over 3k for an entire tank and see what you get for mileage
2. don't gun it AT ALL for an entire tank and see what you get
3. don't tell them "I'm getting bad mileage" and have them try to find it...they'll put it on the machine and say "there are no codes" and assume you're driving it hard. Go in and tell them "I think one of the coil packs is bad" and tell them to pull them, NOT just check for codes.
4. most likely cause of your bad mileage...you. I did a very informal experiment and figured out if I rev to about 5500rpm in first I lose about 10 miles from that tank of gas. So if you gun it 10 times (doesn't seem like much) you lost 100 miles from that tank. Think about it and try #1 and #2 and let us know your results.
