Sold my Prelude for a Maxima....help me out!!

Hell guys...I'm really new around here and could use a bit of help. First off I was a member about 4 years ago when I owned a 3rd Gen Maxima but I have since moved on. Anyhow I've owned a 98 Prelude for 3 years now and have dumped tons of cash into making it fairly quick and I would like to think of as good looking. Two days ago I sold the lude and made a killing on it. Now i'm going back to a maxima. I wanted something bigger but just as powerful. I'm not going to go all out with this car just a set of 19's and a mild drop for now. BUT to get back to the point I dont know what car to get. I've tried searching but with the way the site is setup its very hard to get the answers I need. The point is I'm going to auction this Friday the 15th and there will be 75 2000-2003 Maximas. I know I'm going to be really stressed out over which one to pick so could you guys help me out! All of them have between 20-45k on them...the price is between 13-22k. So its all about the same car...I'm just looking for which ones would really stand out as a good buy. Any help would be really really great! Thanks guys....oh and here is a few pics of my old lude.

nice.. u got the jdm foglights too...
try to get a 2k3... 6speed... it's rumored that the 2k2's have some minor bugs/issues that were fixed in the 2k3s... so to maybe save some headache go for the newer model...

2k3, less bugs, much less if you want to run intake and so on. Not alot of mods, but their will be, cause that engine is in all Nissans and Infiniti's.

2k2 or 2k3 (255hp stock)
6spd (for sure)
SE (sport edition)
sunroof (highly necessary IMO)

other than that pick a color and let the modding begin. Oh, I forgot your just going to put on 19's

good luck and j/k

Wow you guys respond quick! Its gonna be a bit harder to find a 6 speed I think. I say that because by just looking through the auction list I only saw about 15 2002 or newer Maximas. So chances are the color I want wont be the 6 speed. Whats the down side of the Auto...how much slower is it?

High 14s as opposed to low-mid 14s with the 6spd. Still a fast car though, but the gear ratios arent that great. I dont think any of the colors on the 2k2-3s were that bad, I'd try for a 6spd if I were you.

you will be much happier with a manual. autos are still good, but the difference is night and day, and like most auto owners, you will wish that you had a manual trans

I want to rid of my tranny and get a 6spd.
Get the 6 spd fully loaded with lower miles and dont get black.
I think you should know why

You guys have no idea of the performance an auto can dish out but thats in the long run Anyway... the fastest stock maxima that you can get your hands on is gonna be a 6spd 2k2-2k3 which have hit 14.2's in the 98mph range stock with an excellent driver. The performance potential for the new 3.5 motors are amazing but there isnt too much aftermarker support out there as of yet. The fastest N/A 3.5 6spd is hitting 13.8 at 101mph on street tires. With slick an auto 3.5 has hit 13.6 so they dont slack too much.

It all depends on what you want to do man, looks like your a project car type of person and plainly put the 3.0's potential at this time is alot more then the 3.5's, im refering to a turbo unless you want to step up and the the 1st with a turbo 3.5 then all the power to you.
I dont know what your goal are, ect... but judging by how your prelude turned out, id say you know damn well what your doin. Not too many people can take a honda and supe it up and have in not look like rice.
If you want an all out ***** car get a 2k-2k1 5spd which will be easier to find then a 6spd and turbo the damn thing currently with the 3.5 the only major power adding option there is would have to be

The 3.0 has more tuning potential as of right now cause of the turbo's and supercharger. But if you like looks and stuff also ther is the AE edition which i heard is hard to find. If you drop the AE it looks really nice. But there is a large power difference with the AE versus 2k2 and 2k3. I would love to have the extra power of the 3.5 but sometimes i can be really superficial and worry more about looks.

Wow, nice Prelude.

3.5L 6-speed...if you want raw power.

Personally, I'd take a 3.0L 5-speed or 3.5L auto.

the 3.5 auto can dish out much power. Nitrous is prefereably used on autos. But 6spds are just simply more fun to drive and you dont have to worry about as many tranny issues.

Depends on what you wanna do... Everyone here says 6spd 6spd 6spd

I bought the Auto and am very happy with it. I wouldn't have considered a manual in this car, but thats just me
if you're like me and were looking for a pure comfort fast car... the auto is it. If you're going to try and make it into a sports car I would go with the manual. For me the auto is plenty fast.

Nice Prelude. Judging by the Pennsylvania tags I'm assuming you're going to Mannheim. If you are, good luck trying to get a manual. I was there five times before I gave up and went with an auto - I picked mine up in May for $14,900 with 23,000 miles. The same exact car (except mileage) and manual was going for $2,000 to $2,500 more. Not worth it my book, but something to think about.

I knew I was going to spend that extra $2,500 on mods, so I decided on the auto.

all i can say is that i am very happy with my 2000 max se auto, but i would still rather have a 03 6 sp. i think about it this way with a 3.0 engine there is a lot of power just imagine with a 3.5 manual just go for it and forget the color. oh and love the prelude ,looks wicked.

trust me i had a 2k2 auto and now a 2k3 auto i definately regret gettin an auto...even tho my parents paid for the car and told me "you get an auto son" i really had no choice if it was my choice i wouldve taken the base SE with no options and 6speed over any of the maxes at the lot...it was a nice sheer silver wtih black interior too....lucky me every other max at the lot had frost interior which i dread

Once again, to each his owm. Personally I love black interior but here in AZ Even in LA my 2nd home its too damn hot to sit on. I went with the frost because my first car was black on black with leather BIG mistake
The manual is hands down more fun to drive then the auto, but if you live in LA and have to drive in that traffic Trust me youd want the auto and just cruise.

I also sold my prelude for a maxima. I got a 6 spd 2k2 max and have loved it ever since. I didn't take out the prelude once after I got the max and was selling the lude. Anyways, one thing you will want to do 1st is drop the maxima and get a rear sway bar. After driving the lude you will feel like you are driving a boat with the new max.

heres a pic of my old lude.

those are both great looking preludes! i'm just gonna give my say when it comes to purchasing a maxima. I would definitely keep my eyes peeled for a white on black leather 6mt SE. i think white shows the lines of the car the best and also looks best with a set of dubs.

Your exactly right...I'm going to Mannheim and really pulling for a nice 6 speed to be there. I looked through all the cars over the past month...and the ones coming friday and it really shows no more than 10 2k2 or newer manuals. So I guess I'm gonna have to go with an Auto. I'd rather not spend 2k more just for a manual trans. Thing is i've had enough of being stuck in traffic on the way to school and stuff with my lude. Plus it was fast enough as it is. I really find the input you guys gave me helpful...and if at all possible I will get a 6 speed...but I will not be upset with an Auto. This car is a new start...I cant wait to mod it.

As a previous '97 Prelude owner, I can say that you will have a difficult time getting the Max to handle as well as the Lude. After lowering, upgrading struts, FSTB, RSB, tires & wheels, the Max is just now beginning rival the Lude in the twisties!

If your looking for a new 6spd good luck with finding one. I was trying to get one not too long ago, and there are only a few used 6 speeds left. The last one I was able to locate was a Sterling Mist 6spd with limited slip and moonroof and was located at Rockingham, North Carolina.

needle in a haystack

I search the Midwest for a month because I was stubborn about getting a manual.

I found three total, and passed on one that was obviously a hard-driven former rental car.
I eventually fluked into a 2k2 manual trade-in at a dealership in Columbus, Ohio. It was super clean with 18K miles, and I paid $18,400, totally loaded.

Of my 5 Maxes, I had one manual ('99 SE Titanium) and I ditched it within 9 months for a manual SE.

I have a 2k3 6 speed, and my mom has an 2k2 auto...

the auto is ok, really smooth shifts, but it's an auto.

the 6 speed (even my 2k3) has some issues with the tranny. 3rd gear crunches alot when driving hard.

The automatic makes for a good tourer, and the 6 speed is alot of fun, but it doesn't turn it into a real Sport Sedan (M5, AMG55, RS6)
but it's about as much fun that you can have in a 190 inch long 4 door V6 under $30,000 family sedan..

enjoy!
