I have a ghetto airbox and when i go WOT it whistles. Is this normal? It sounds cool, but i dont know if the sound is a symptom of something detrimental to my car or just a regular sound. BTW its a 2000 5speed SE. No other mods. Thanks.

 

I have a stock 2003 SE and it whistles at idle. I asked the dealer about it and he said that most 3.5Ls sound like this when new. (I've only got 6000kms on it). It does not sound damaging.

Maybe not the same thing you are hearing.

Has anyone else heard this intake whistle on new max's?

 

Normal intake noise...however modifying the stock intake will reduce the amount of sound dampening and make it more noticeable.

BTW..I have a 2000 se as well and I know its not anything damaging...Any chance it only whistles when the AC is on???

 

a lot of times i drive by pressing the gas a little then letting go, and pressing it a little more so it sounds like its whistling. i keep letting go of the gas and pressing it as much as i can lol.. sometimes i just go at a certain low rpm to hear it
