Little Ford ZX2 just tried to race me...
I'm not a street racer much at all, but this guy in his beautiful white Ford ZX2 with its bad-*** Zetec engine tailed my baby and then cut off the car next to me to get pole position at the red light I stopped at. He was rolling up and down on first gear waiting for the light to change. Kept looking over at me. Pretty funny. I didn't even have to try. I let him go at the light (and he took off...chirped the tires and everything)...took my foot off the brake, and by the time I settled into 2nd gear I had already passed him and switched on my blinker (as the law requires) and moved in front of him with several car lengths to spare in 3rd. I don't even think I passed the speed limit (45mph where I was).
Of course, in classic fashion, the moron floored it out of the next intersection just to get a spot in traffic ahead of me. I was done with him by then, so I just smiled and patted my baby on the steering wheel.

Things like this are the closest to roadkills I get. Today at lunch some guy in either a golf or gti was all over my butt as we got to the freeway. As soon as I got to the part of the onramp where its legal to merge, I put my foot down and he dissappeared into a little spec on my mirror. I love how easy it is to put 10-15 carlengths between you and traffic in a max.
Had a similar incident with a porsche the other day. Was merging off one freeway onto another. Again the porsche was in my rear. I was getting ready to move into the right lane... put on my blinker and he got over and closed off the gap that I was going to merge into. So I floored it, put him and the car in front of him 5 carlengths back and calmy got over into the right lane.
I love my this car.

Sometimes, drivers are too proud of their own cars. One evening, I was in my modified Dinan BMW 540i (0-60 in 4.4 seconds with the automatic in "sport" mode!) And there was this young guy in a Porsche 911 Turbo (2001 or 2000) with a Tipronic, I think, and was tailgating me and passing and slowing down, etc. Then came a stoplight and the green...and you know. There is a race. It happens many times in this forum, so we know the story.
So, we accelerate, leaving the cars behind us in dust. And guess who mins? My AUTOMATIC bimmer! The guy looks amazed and had the "can't believe I lost in a Pore-sha" look. Later, he rolled his window down and said, "Thats one fast family car."
So, I guess the lesson is to know the car you are racing. If you see any suspicuous "Dinan," "AMG," "TRD," "V-Tek" badges, just be careful.
Technical Data: (2001 911 Turbo/2000 540i Dinan)
0-60: 4.7/4.4
0-100: 10.6(0-99)/10.53
Horsepower: 415/430hp
Top speed: 185/190+(Dinan estimate)
P.S. The very next day, I got raced by another 911. This time it was in my Max. Lost...duh

Of course I didn't break the speed limited so I left off and he passed me and took off. he was probably thinking I was redlining it since I was beating his pushrod sunfire!!

hmmm while that is cool and all....
im sure your bmw is very sweet but to say that it was your car is not true at all. the new turbos have a 0-60 in 3.6 and run an 11.9 quarter(tip. the manuals are a little faster). u either have the wrong car or the guy spent $111,000 on a car that he doesnt deserve to have if he cant beat a car 1 sec. slower. just my 2 cents.

Of course you $22,000+ Maxima shold beat a STOCK $11,000 Economy Car! If I paid over $20,000 for a sporty sedan I hope it would beat stock sporty economy cars.
However I'd bet money that at the track half the 5th gen Maxima drivers here couldn't beat either of my ZX2's in the 1/4 mile. One of them ran low 15's, naturally aspirated, with a whole $260 in mods. I raced a few Maximas at the track with it and rarely lost to them. The other one should be running in the 14's. I'll find out when the local tracks open in a few weeks. The ZX2 is an easy car to get a lot of power outt of for not a lot of money. Mine gained 32 HP at the wheels at 5,700 RPM with $330 in mods. I know another ZX2 owner that runs mid 13's with a total of $2,000 in mods to his daily driven ZX2.
There are plenty of other sporty economy cars out there that with a few mods are pretty quick. One of my friends has a daily driven neon that runs 14.0's all motor. I've seen modified, daily drivenn Civics run 13's natually aspirated on street tires.
Just don't be suprised if some sporty economy car beats you at the track or a stoplight to stoplight race some day.
And a Huyndai Elantra with a 911 Turbo Engine could smoke us all...
I wasn't talking about modifications. I wasn't talking about your friends' cars or your ZX2s on the track. I was talking about a driver who thought his cute little car could beat my family car and was wrong.
I'll tell you what...just for you...I won't be surprised if "some sporty economy car" beats me from a stoplight some day. Of course when that happens...and the driver of that "sporty economy car" posts his or her story...I won't take it so personally because I'll still be confident that I made a better buying decision in a vehicle that he or she did even if his/her pretty little ZX2 is a little faster than my car.

what we should do is put a seat, a 911 turbo engine 4 wheels, and steering wheel in big emty box and drive it that will be the cheapest adn fastest thing on earth and I'll bet it'll be cheaper then buying a focus and modding it to that level! so don't be suprise if you get smoked by a box

I guess Porsche's site is wrong then....
Go to: http://www.us.porsche.com/national/m...bo/default.htm, click on technical data, and then performance. There, it says Tiptronic S takes 4.9 seconds to 62. Then, I guess the Porsche 911 TURBO is faster is 3.6 secs is correct.

Your info on the 911 Turbo is wrong. That 0-60 acceleration time is for the naturally aspirated model, not the turbo. The 2001 911 Turbo with an automatic can do 0-60 in 3.8 seconds and with the manual transaxle can do 0-60 in 3.5-3.6 seconds. Even the 1993 911 turbo 3.6 with a manual transaxle can do 0-60 in under 4.0 seconds.

Fell out of my chair laughing.

My 540 did not come with Xenons but I got aftermarket "Xenon halogens" which are almost as bright. I have it for the high beams, low beams, and fogs. In comparison, the PIAAs are not as bright as the "Xenon halogens" but are a bit brighter than the 540i original lights.

The 2.0 Zetec in the ZX2 is very restricted by its stock exhaust manifold. Also the stock crankshaft pulley weighs 4 lbs, while the AFX UDP is 9 oz. and is 30% smaller in diameter.
