I finally threw out those terrible Nissan front rotors and but in Brembo rotors. My mistake, however, was having semi-metallic pads installed. The low speed squealing is driving me nuts. Maybe the mechanic scrapped the shims! Who knows? Only 5000 miles on them.
But I just want to change the pads to non-metallic to fix this, and do it myself.

Question --- Are there any special concerns, tech problems, special tools needed for changing front pads on a 5th generation Max? Any advice from experienced owners who have done this?

Also, maybe the mechanic who put in these aftermarket pads screwed up adn didn't use shim coumpound or whatever. Any advise on what to check for before replacing the pads?

How about applying anti-squeal compound to the shims first to see if the squeal go away? There is one shim on the outside pad, and two shims on the inside pad (the one being pushed by the piston). When I did my front brake, I smeared a little synthetic brake grease on the shims, and that seems to work fine. No noise/squeal. Don't forget to lubricate the caliper pins and clean the sliding surfaces for the pads while you have them out. Recommend a torque wrench for the caliper bolts. You can get the shim kit from dealer ($25 or so).
