Weapon R intake messed up my Mass airflow sensor

i just put my weapon r dragon intake on my 02. all was well for a while, i drove around for like 30 miles just listening to it, then i drove to school and to my friends house, about 75 miles in all. then just out of the blue i was driving and i nailed the gas and at around 5000 rpm as it switched to the second intake runner the car felt like it popped out of gear and it just stalled out on me. I couldn't get it to start until i disconnected the plug on the airflow sensor, and even then it will have a rough idle and won't rev over 2500 rpm even if you reconnect the plug while it's running.
so i took the intake off and returned the stock aribox and as i expected the i still had the same problem.

in my opinion the Dragon air filter was quite greasy out of the box and i was wondering if it's possible for the sensor to have gotten covered in filter oil and therefore can no longer function properly. now i know i'm not the first person in the world to get a Weapon R dragon intake so has anyone else run itnto this? What options do i have to remedy this other than buying a new airflow sensor?

Just clean the metal pieces that hang down inside the MAFS and see if it works.

I have had mine for about 3 months now with no problems whatsoever. I just make sure its clean!! I check it every 5000 miles when I do an oil change with Mobil 1 Synthetic and Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil Filter.

I have had mine for a little over a week now with no problems (knock on wood). When I got mine, I oiled the filter and let it set out to dry. I wanted to make sure it was good and dry with all of the MAF problems we read about. I also wiped all of the parts down with a rag. I waited for 2 days for it to completely dry out. The filter element was dry to the touch when I installed it.

I had my APEXI filter on my 2k3 since my odometer read 52KMS, now my odometer reads 19,200kms... NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, NO MAF FAILURE.

This should be a post. NEVER DISCONNECT THE MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR PLUG!!

I never did when I installed my stillen intake and the thing runs like brand spankin new. The MAF has never died on me. I noticed that only the people that disconnect the MAF plug have the problems, don't know why but it's gay.

Can we just post this :

Al Nissan MAFS suck monkey ***** ! I know of Altys, and Sentras, Quests and even a Murano with blown MAFS ! Dont blame the intake, no matter what the brand. I already blew one, with my Frankencar-Apexi setup. I guess when I handed Nissan 30k, I should not have expected quality parts....

i attempted to clean the MAFS with brake cleaner and a rag but it still doesn't work. should i keep trying to clean it or is it "blown" i didn't think that it would blow short of taking in a lot of water. WTF? i have no intents on sending the intake back i just wanna have my Weapon-R working. this is the 3rd WR intake in my 3rd nissan. and this is the second maxima i installed a WR intake on, the last being a 4th gen. i've never had the MAFS blow. is it possible that excessive airflow blew it? and if so would a MAFS on a 350z fit my car and would it function properly?
i don't wanna have to buy another MAFS obviously so what would you guys do in my shoes?

brake cleaner is far to abbrassive. use k&N cleaner. not the oil but the cleaner much less abrassive but works. I actually noticed a large difference after i cleaned mine but i still replaced it. buy a new one from DAVEB for like $80.

is it an OEM MAFS? the guy at nissan told me it was gonna be in excess of $300 if i were to pick it up and do it myself. i told him i'd call him back after all else fails. the guy at my nissan place is a cool guy. i was totally upfront with him and said i was attempting an aftermarket intake install and he said to make an appointment after the long weekend. he said as lomg as i put the stock airbox back in that he'll do what he can to make sure it's covered under warranty.

you can really get it for far less. he is trying to sell you the whole thing when all you need is the MAF its self. He probably cant even sell you just that but DAVEB can. i bought mine from him. go to this thread and look about half way down and you will find a reply that has his name and phone number. hurry up and call him and you might be able to get it by tuesday or even saturday if he can get it out the door.

My MAF just blew! I had my Weapon R intake off for a while since the car was being serviced. I put the intake back on yesterday and had no problems until today. I was accelerating and the car bucked at about 4500 rpm and the engine died. It drove like crap all the way back to my house. WHY ARE WE ALL HAVING SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH THESE THINGS? Can we just not have an intake on our car? Anybody?

I think it's time to have an aftermarket MAFS sensor made for us 02-03 guys.

i got my car back from nissan yesterday. they replaced the MAFS for free. so i threw the intake back in and all is good so far. i'm at about 100 miles whichis where the last one blew, but think it's more along the lines of high RPMs that blow them. mine blew at about 4500-5000 just like MAXINXS.

the new mafs looks different from the one originally on there. there seems to be more plastic covering the metal MAFS element inside. if you look through from the side with the screen you could see metal which you can't see on the new one i got. maybe this one is meant to be more resistant to screwin' up.
also i didn't disconnect the MAFS plug this time. i didn't think it had any bearing when i was advised to do so but i wanted to try every precaution possible.
